To the 6 bolt folks who are running a PTT twin disk. Are you using the 7 bolt flywheel bolts?

Thanks for the reply. Reason for asking was a poster on DSMTalk mentioned the 6 bolt flywheel bolts where to long. Wasn't sure so I posted this question.

I did talk to Vicki at PTT. She has not heard of any problems with flywheel bolts on the DSM's.

I have not had any problem with the stock 6-bolt fasteners either.

The only problem I experienced with the clutch is stalling. If I do any engine braking and push the clutch in, the car dies. WTF If I give the car a little bit of throttle, back off, then push the clutch in, it doesn't stall. I'm completely stumped and I'm 100% sure the clutch has something to do with it. I'm thinking it might be because it weighs less (less rotating mass). The revs go up quicker with this clutch, but also drop much quicker. If anyone else has experienced this and knows of any type of fix, please let me know! Other than that, I love this clutch. :thumb:

Flash is this clutch also noisy and chattery at idle?

I had this problem. Cheap easy fix is to just bump up the idle which I did anyways to help hide the lope of the larger cams.

OEM 6bolt flywheel bolts work perfect, I never had any problems with mine when I had my PTT setup.

No, OEM 6-bolt.

I used OEM 6bolt stuff too and had no problems.
I heard the same thing "6 bolt flywheel bolts where to long". We even measured to make sure and there was plenty of clearance for the bolts.

Thats exactly it (Makes my car rev like a damn motorcycle!!:rocks: ) ....I had to do a slight tunning change because of this, but no biggie

Mine is also silent ...no chatter at all:)

I run a Quarter Master 7.25" clutch with a PTT flywheel on my 7-bolt. The stock 7-bolt flywheel bolts were too long by 2-3mm.

The 7-bolt flywheel bolts are M12 x 21.2mm (MD302074)

The 6-bolt flywheel bolts are M12 x 22.5mm (MD040557)

The 6-bolt flexplate bolts are M12 x 17mm (MD952233)

Since I was using 7-bolt flywheel bolts, they were too long, and you do NOT want to run a washer under the flywheel bolt. It is best to purchase the proper hardware to make it work properly.

Use a dial calipers with a depth gauge and measure your total depth of the flywheel to the end of the threads in your crank. The 6-bolt flexplate bolts should be the proper length to properly install your PTT flywheel.

The PTT flywheel (especially the older ones) are thinner at the mounting flange than the stock, fidanza, ACT, Quarter Master, etc. flywheels by a few millimeters.

Measure your depth, and use the M12 x 17mm (MD952233) bolts in replacement. Be sure to still torque them down with red Loctite and 100 ft/lb.

I hope that this helps.

Just to clarify for everyone, the flex plate bolts are the ones that go into the crank, NOT the ones that go from the flex plate to the converter. I know people have that figured out but just thought I'd through it out there so there's no doubt.

Yes, here are the part numbers and sizes for the other ones...

The 6-bolt (1990-1992) flexplate bolts are M12 x 17mm (MD952233) .

Early 7-bolt (92-94) flexplate bolts are M12 x 11.7mm (MD752272).
2G 7-bolt (95-99) flexplate bolts are the same M12 x 11.7mm (MD752272).

Torque convertor bolts are smaller in size and diameter:

2G's (1995-1999) are M10 x 11mm (MD713228).

1G's have two different part numbers but the bolts are the same overall dimension:

The 6-bolt (1990-1992) torque convertor bolts are M10 x 11mm (MD952169).
Early 7-bolt (92-94) use the same bolt as the 2G and are M10 x 11mm (MD752272).

I hope that this clears any confusion up. Here are all the part numbers and dimensions for all 1G and 2G DSM flexplate bolts and flywheel bolts, and torque convertor bolts used.

I think it would be better if you just click on "thread tools" at the top of the screen, and subscribe to the thread.

Just thought Id add my findings here. "I THINK" that the whole too long of bolt issue on these setups may have been created by ARP. LOL If you happen to have been using ARP Flywheel hardware and "forgot" that they are "extended length" you will find out they are indeed too long. At which point you hope and pray you still have the original bolts!!
Long story short ARP extended length Flywheel bolts will definitely be too long on a 6-bolt engine.

I ordered a set of flexplate bolts when I got my twin disc. The length was good, but they didn't have the '11' stamped on the head, so I didn't use them.
EVO flywheel bolts are 15mm long, which is a little too short for comfort.

SO which bolts did you end up using?

Are flexplate bolts safe to torque to 100 ft/lbs?

Since I only have 6 bolts holding the flywheel to the crank I used a new set of stock bolts and blue loctite. I double checked the depth to make sure the bolts would not bottom out. If I had 7 bolts holding the flywheel to the crank I'd feel safe using the shorter, 17mm flexplate bolts.

The manual says to use the same torque on flywheel bolts and flexplate bolts.
