Well I took my car to the shop to get the clutch fixed A LONG time ago and finally get a call today.. its an ACT 2600 lb. clutch that i put in and turns out that the PRESSURE PLATE was messed up.. and NOT the disk.. could someone explain that to me??? Also... the supposed "clutch" guy that my dad knows (me being 17 but paying for all the stuff) said the reason everything burned up is because of the ACT 2600 lb clutch.. he said "since everything is stock etc. etc. no wonder everythings burning up and frying with a 2600lb. clutch in there, theres no way that is good for the car" .. Im not sure what his support is for this comment but they (the shop and dad) and INSISTING that i put a stock clutch in it for the "better" of the car... The car has Big16g front mount 3" exh. etc. etc. and i really don't know why I must downgrade clutches to stock.. I argued till my face was blue but I think my opinion doesnt matter.. Could someone please help me build up my case for why the clutch isnt "destroying" and "burning" up the car, I am going to be printing this page and taking it in for them to see, so please help guys. Thanks a lot

sorry about that, sorta typed the above post in enraged anger..

basically the pressure plate on my 2600 lb. clutch is messed up and not the disk.. i didnt understand that?? i thought it was always vice-versa..

But the actual thing i need people to respond to is that a 2600lb clutch will not harm or "make things burn up" (what the gentleman who "knows his clutches" said).. He basically refused to do the 2600lb clutch because he thought it would destroy the car.. I need someone to just say why thats not true basically .. thanks

The only thing that a 2600 will do is increase clamping force so it WONT burn up your clutch disc. If you dont run a pressure plate that has additional clamping force your clutch will spin and that WILL burn up your clutch. So... did they use an alignment tool when installing the new clutch? if its off kilter it will cause that symptom plus others.

did the mechanic take off the flywheel and resurface it? This step is very important because the disc must be mated evenly with the flywheel.

With high mileage vehicle, the flywheel is most likely warped and has heat stress cracking. Warped flywheel will cause disc to chatter and slip. Excessive disc slipping with cause the pressure plate to expereince same condition I described on the flywheel, I guess this is what you meant by burning disc. In worsest case, clutch disc will separate.

Also very important.. the flywheel has to be machined to the correct "step" that is requires with the ACT Cluches. If this was not done properly.. your cluch would most definitly fail.

The only thing that is going to burn up is your stock clutch with the extra HP that your making. Putting a stock clutch in is absolutly stupid. A mechanic at a local garage is not a clutch expert he has ABSOLUTLY NO IDEA WHAT HE IS LOOKING AT.

ACT has been making clutches for 12 years and knows everything there is to know about clutches.

What a 2600 does it use a stiffer diaphram which allows more clamping force. That is the best way to make a clutch handle more HP. It will not BURN up or do any physical dammage to the car in any way. What you are installing is a clutch that is more capable of handling the HP that your car makes and will last longer.

Basically if you want to do another clutch job sooner and want poor engagement and to end up with a slipping clutch in 6 months go ahead and install the stock clutch. That clutch is designed for your car for your setup. ACT did that because THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!
