GTA,
Hey guys I need some help. I have a Tsi AWD, and today I launched the car hard and broke the wheels loose, then I heard a bang, felt a bind from the tranny. I know that my center differential has been bad for a while.
After the launch, in any gear the tranny is seizing up, i.e. I can hear all kinds of metallic grinding sounds, and it binds if your try to go forwards or backwards. In neutral the car rolls around PERFECTLTY, its just in gear you hear all kinds of funky sounds and it doesnt really want to move much. It still shifts fine into all the gears though. There are no leaks and the t-case is full of oil.
Well I had to get the car towed, luckily I wasn't too far from home.
Does this sound like I blew my center diff?
What other damage could I have done?
Thanks in advance

If you are not seeing any other symptoms, the best way to test for a broken center diff, is to take a very sharp turn (steering wheel locked all the way) at low speed. If you feel any of your wheels skip, you have a bad diff.

But your problems seems more obvious... Sounds like a broken center diff would be your best case scenario :(. I would not drive the car if there is any type of mechanical noise coming out of the tranny! You can be making your damage much worse.

If you have enough ability, you should at least remove your outer tranny case and look the bottom. Taking out center diff would also be a good thing to do, but that takes more time.

Ether way, it does not sound good ...

Thanks for the reply GRNDSM.
The thing is I can't even drive the car no more, because the tranny seizes if you try to drive it, i.e. you can hear all can of banging grinding sounds if I try to drive it.
I guess Im gonna ear into it and see what exactly the problem is.
If anyone else has any other suggestions or ideas, please feel free to comment.
Thanks.
