G1 Transmission swap

Does anyone know for sure if I can drop a 1990 tsi AWD 5 speed tranny into my 92 TSi AWD?? I ve asked around and no one knows the answer.

Oh you will need a 90 transfer case also. I have one if you need it. I also have a friend with a 92 awd tranny for sale here in Fort Wayne

You can, but what about the shift cable, I believe there both are diff from the 90 and the 91(much longer) model.

That is right, the cables and shifter mechanism are different.

Transfer case is not a big issue because you can always swap out the transfer case shaft to match to the transfer case that you are using.

Aside from those issues, '90 trannys are usually worse shifting than '91+. So not many people usually do this...
