I have a full prothane motor mount kit but the motor still rocks forward and backword in the engine bay as if the axles have play in them whenever i give it even a little gas. It feels like the motor is twisting forward from the torque untill sufficient speed is built to calm it down. I beleive it may be that the front and rear factory mounts could possibly be cracked deeming the prothane inserts usless or I thought it may have somthing to do with my axles, but i really want your opinions on what else this could be.

Also, i was wondering if anyone makes a completely solid front and rear mount or what the size of the mount hole is so i could just buy a universal mount and press it in?

Thanx guys

that was going to my suggestion check your front and rear mt mounts.. generally axles dont have play the hubs start going bad they do but usually not axles. as for if they make them im not sure. on a 1g prothane kit you get a full back one..mabey you can make one of thoes work...

i know my front right wheel bearing is going out and im pretty sure on our cars you cant just buy the wheel bearing, you have to buy the whole hub. Please correct me if im wrong or if you have any other suggestions.

thanx

Yea you half to buy the whole wheel berring. i think i got mine from advance for about $80.

I believe Buschur was atleast going to make a solid urthane mount for the front torque mount, not sure about the rear. I'd give them a shout & see if they went through with it. If they did let us know, I might pick them up.

IF you can afford to do it rebuild the axles. It is a world of difference, believe me. Also check the side mm and tranny mounts for wear. These are all very inexpensive fixes. Good luck

If you have the stock mounths then the engine will move. It was designed to do that because Mitsubishi wanted the smooth ride. But if they are riped then you might hear noise like my friend with his VW. Change them. The Axle really not going to move the engine and the wheel bearing wont really do that either. If the axle is showing wear then you will get greese everywhere and at some point it will make clinking noise on turns. Wheel bearing will make noise on turns also when you put loud on it. So if you can drive good and no noise but you see that then engine is moving then check the mounths. Maybe it is completely broken.

There is no causual relationship between your axles and your motor rocking when the car is not moving. The engine is mounted at three positions (upper D/S, front and rear) and the tranny by one. The poly bushing inserts are much stiffer than the OEM rubber but will still flex somewhat. So slight engine rock is not in itself an indicator of a problem. Obviously, when the front drive wheels are spinning (e.g. no traction) that oscillation can be transmitted back to the engine making the rocking worse.

Are you experiencing / trying to ward off axle hop so want to further eliminate engine movement? Are you sure all four mounts are "prothaned"?

There was a THREAD a year or so ago about someone machining solid inserts. May want to contact him. I believe Buschur also carries these as remember a mention in an old writeup of his RWD car using them :dsm:
