I'm having a hard time taking my tranny out of gear sometimes and also having trouble to put it in 1st gear. I can put it in 1st when I'm sitting at a stop but I have to shift into 2nd then go into first. I don't know what could be wrong with it. I don't know if its my clutch not disengaging all the way or its my tranny(I have 130,xxx on it). thanks

Try obvious things like checking for leaks at the slave and master, bleeding the clutch, and adjusting the pedal. All of these can be done in an hour or two total.

I replaced the slave cylinder because it was leaking, bleed it and it still the same thing. I adjust the pedal but no luck still. I'm gonna check the cables and see.

WHen you're sitting at a stop and it won't go in, try double-clutching it and see if it goes in. Push the clutch in, then release it, then push it back in and try to put it in gear. If it goes in, it's the 1st gear synchro that's going.

Double clutching brings the input shaft up tp engine speed so it will fall into gear, if you're wondering.

What if it doesn't?

Depends on whether or not it goes into gear with the car off easily or not.
If it doesn't, I'd go to the engine bay and try to shift by hand. If it shifts fine, the linkage is out of adjustment. If it doesn't, but 2-5 shift fine, there's a problem with the transmission.

Yeah that makes perfect sense. I think I'm going to try that. thanks

It shifts fine when the car is off. It goes in every gear really smooth.

When running, do 2-5 and R shift fine? Is 1st the only gear giving you problems?

Every gear shifts nice and smooth. Its just 1st gear thats being a pain. It will go but I have to almost go into a complete stop put it in 2nd then it goes into 1st with no trouble.
Also what I do sometimes when I want to put it in 1st is while I'm rolling really really slow it goes in. It makes this high pitch noise before it goes so I try not to do it as much.

At this point I'm convinced it's a synchro going bad.

Same here. I'm just worried its the clutch b/c I just changed that. thanks for the help

If it were the clutch it would have problems going into every gear I would imagine. If you've already properly adjusted the pedal, bled the lines, and checked the slave cylinder extension, then synchros are all that are left.

Just for the hell of it, check to make sure that your shift linkage (under the hood) is bolted tightly to its mount. I was having a problem were I couldn't get my car out of second gear, it felt as if it were stuck. I looked under the hood and I was actually missing one of the bolts that holds the shift linkage to its mount. I replaced the bolt and it shifts 100X better now. For some reason the misaligned linkage only affected getting out of 2nd gear and sometimes going into 1st gear.

Is it this mount, I'm not too sure though.

LOL I was totally off. Anyways I checked that mine was wiggling a little bit. Is it supposed to do that.

No, the bracket is supposed to be tight to the bell housing. If it wiggles, it may be giving you to much play in the shift linkage, causing it to get stuck into gear. That is what happened with mine. Except mine was actually missing one of the bolts. However, I don't know how much play a "loose" bracket will cause. It depends on how loose it really is. Just tighten it up and see how it works. Hopefully it will fix your problem, if not... it may be the tranny.
I hope I was helpful.
Best of luck!

Shawn
