i wanted to drain and refill my trans on my 92 awd laser 5sp, but the guy who had it before me funked up the filler plug head. its really banged up and everything slips off when i try to loosen it. ive tried big vise grips, turbo sockets and heatin it. it wont budge. so my question is, can i just drain the fluid out and fill it back up where the speedo cable goes in on the top of the trans, and just fill it to mitsu capacities?

thanx alot for the help

Try heating the accual case (around the bolt) not the bolt. You want the case to expand not the bolt. Keep trying with vice grips as tight as you can get them. It shoud break loose. I dont know anywere esle you can fill it.

i tried everything, the filler plug isnt coming out. it might be cross threaded in there, but i still need to know if its alright to drain the trans and fill it through the speedo cable hole at the top of the trans.... i know some honda guys and thats where they fill theres at.

thanx alot

Weld another bolt onto it, and use a breaker bar. I don't see how that thing could be on so tight unless the person that put it on is an idiot. You will have to check the level with the plug out anyway, so it has to come out. Unless you are the type of person that says "I don't need to check my oil, I put in 4.5 quarts so it must be right."

Yes, it is. Don't drop the bolt inside the gearbox.
Have a shop weld a nut on that plug so you can get a grip on it, and replace it.
