Having a problem with my transmission or clutch can't figure it out...

It starts off with in the morning before i go to work i turn the car on i hear a grinding noise when the car is in neutral.... i open the hood and its in the transmission... i go back in the car ... i put the clutch down the noise stops... i release the clutch the noise kicks back in.... for like 5-10 min..... i drive to work i shift to 3rd... when i accelerate passed 4500 rpm sometimes the 3rd gear pops out of place and slips back into neutral.. i get to work which is a 15 min drive on the highway ...... i open the hood .... no more noise.... Clutchs Grabs Harsh too ... and its only a stock brand name Sach :(

Sounds like throw out bearing making the noise, and a shift fork throwing out of gear. When I had trouble getting into second, and when I got into second, tended to slip out. Opened the tranny and the shift fork was done. Just an idea.

thanx.... i think i mght need to replace the whole clutch ... its not grabbing anymore...... umm how much is the shift fork gonna cost me u think?

I dunno, but I have or I should say had an ACT 2100 and AMAZINGLY, the center of the clutch DISC (i.e. the center portion INSIDE of the springs on one side of the disc came apart) and I have no reasoning why it did this, but the car was driveable until the aforementioned disc piece got lodged in between the disc and flywheel. Car had symptoms that the slave/master cyl's were going bad, long and behold it was the disc...just a possibility. But from what you're describing, my money's on the throwout bearing.- Peace

ive had act on my sisters honda civic si... grabs like a mother#@%#@%#@%#@%er.. but they dont have it or my car

clutch fork 70?

should i just get a whole clutch kit? its worth it right

im goin to go to autozone and talk to them...

yea, but im gettin help from my friends too... my friends say they put the wrong transmission fluid when they rebuilt my motor... .. ill get back to you guys thanx

My car was doin the same thing. It sounds like a combo of the tranny and the clutch. My syncros were damaged causing it to pop out of gear. The second I would start releasing the clutch it would pop into nuetral. I would really suggest an aftermarket clutch I am running ACT 2600 it was worth the extra cost. Think about it this way you will go throught a couple of stock clutches to 1 ACT clutch and when the disk wears out all you do is buy a new disk. Look at www.extrememotorsports.com or machv.com

I wouldn't go with an ACT 2600. I thought they were good too, but after talking to someone locally who is very good with these cars and runs 11's all day, I listened to him. I just recently got crankwalk on my 95 tsi awd. The contributing factor was the clutch. He said the ACT 2600's are too strong for these motors and he recommended that you get a clutchmaster 2500. An example would be that a friend of his spent $8,000 to get a motor built from Shaun Glazier at Extreme Motorsports. Two weeks later, he got crankwalk. Shaun said the cause was the ACT clutch. That's my insight on the ACT 2600's. The work fine on the 1G's beacuse of the different cranks. Therefore, I am about to do a 1G block swap in a few weeks so I don't come into this problem again. Just a little bit of advise for you.

okay my friends have checked out my transmissision.. they said the synchros are still good, the clutch grabs good, it must be something inside the transmission.... thats just makin it pop out of 3rd..... when i rev hard it comes out of gear... so what were goin to prob this weekend is open the tranny... thanx guys ill get back to see what happens then
