I've got a question. You know how the rear tranny mount with the skinny a$$ bolt that goes through dowel pin......well i forgot to put the pin in when i put my tranny in and that bolt stripped the threads in my tranny. So do you think i could just enlarge the hole on the ear of the block, then drill and tap that mount in the tranny to accept a larger bolt to make up for the missing dowel pin? Any of you think that would hold up?

How much work would it be for you to replace that alignment dowel?

Having had bad experiences in the past with "shortcuts" :coy: and seeing more than my share of cracked transmission bellhousings, I'd personally not risk not having that dowel in there to ensure corrrect alignment of the tranny to the engine. Once in alignment, re-tapping the hole or drill/tap for a larger bolt and will be fine and you'll have 100% peace of mind :thumb: :dsm:

I know this thread is kind of old but i think this might help acouple people out in the end.

I had the same problem about a year ago.
The odd sized bolt for the rear transmission mount broke off inside the tranny.
Now where the dowl pin goes in is a step that is sits on.
problem with this is after driving in not knowing the bolt had broken off inside there the dowl pin rubbed so bad aginst the step that it wore it away and crushed all the aluminum aginst the broken stud thus making it impossible to use easy-outs to remove the snaped bolt.

This was so bad to wear you couldnt eaven tell there was a broken bolt there!

After trying to drill it out, and use easy-outs (snaped about 3 trying to get it out with no success)

I finaly had to drill the hole out compleatly and use helicoil. (much stronger than aluminum threads anyways)

The dowl pin i had to drill out also too accecpt the lager bolt.

Only thing is, is that i cant remember the larger bolt size that i used but it was standard. Thats all i know.

Hope this helps!
