10w-40 engine oil for tranny fluid???

I have heard of people using 10w-40 egine oil for transmission fluid when they have trouble with their syncros. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this in a 4g63 motor??? Thanks.

Motor oil doesn't have the friction modifiers and extreme-pressure additives that a transmission insists on.

Your best bet is Pennzoil Synchromesh.

thanks...just thought id ask because a friend of mine put regular motor oil in his tranny because it kept popping out of fifth gear...it made it stop though. I guess ill try some synchromesh and go from there.

what kinda kinda car does your friend has?
I know some hondas use motor oil and saturns use dexron

Yea real early hondas and other import types actually called for plain motor oil.
My dad thought I was insane when I was putting 85w type oils in my transmission. !
