Can't Shift into second!

I have a 90 gsx with a second gear problem and a fourth gear crunch. I can put it into 2nd from first gear position only. I cannot downshift from third to second without going into the first gear position with the clutch in first, also it will not go into 2nd at all unless i time the shift and hit it at the exact second it needs to go in. When i finally do get the car into second and try to take a sharp corner it will pop out of gear. I am suspecting the synchro but could this possibly be a linkage problem? Now the fourth gear crunch is just that, a crunch it goes in every time but with the crunch. I thought this might help diagnose my problem. Talk about an irritating and embarassing problem at the racetrack. I just started racing 1st to 3rd to get me by 15.07 @93.6 just doesnt cut it though any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I thought i should also note that i am running an act 2600 plate, disk, and bearing. Thank you.

You could have possibly chipped a tooth on your gearing. Which would require a full rebuild, or new gears. The grinds are created by yes--- your synchro. Adjust the lines and you should be able to shift smoothly (dont launch anymore)

I removed the rubber grommets on the shift plate and replaced them with bushings. Then i adjusted the shift linkage. Second is still hard to get into but it goes in a lot smoother now. All shifts feel really solid also. Time for a rebuild. Lets save some dough.
