I just bought a 92 Laser (6 bolt block w/ 4 bolt rear) and I'm swapping the engine and drivetrain into my 90 AWD Talon. The Laser had 2 issues; A huge dent in the side and a bad clutch. As I've been preparing the engine to be pulled, I noticed the slave cylinder appears to be leaking fluid; it is all greasy and covered in fluid (so is the oil pan too, but that could be from the oil pan gasket.) It isn't "dripping" fluid, but just appears to be leaking slowly.

My question is; could the "bad clutch" simply be a very slow leaking slave cylinder?

The car drives if you baby it; the engagement is nice and gradual, but if you boost it at all the clutch will slip. The clutch is an aftermarket centerforce w/ unknown mileage (I'm thinking less than 20,000) and the laser has 93,000 original miles on it so it isn't too bad. The master cylnder isn't oem so I'm guessing it was replaced when the clutch was replaced and it definitely isn't leaking.

Is it possible I could just change the slave cylinder and have a working clutch? The car has only driven maybe 25 (babied) miles since it "suddenly started slipping" per the original owner.

Thanks in advance.

I believe if the fluid starts leaking the clutch would stay engaged VS. slipping. I could be wrong on this, but that has beenmy experience (just had a master and a slave go out within a week of each other)

Thanks for the advice guys; I think I'll just try a new slave and see if it works. Hopefully it does as I have no money for a new clutch right now.
