right now i'm looking to buy a DSM buy all the ones i see are automatics. I want a 5 speed but cant seem to find one. can anyone give me advice on how much a conversion from an automatic to a manual transmission will cost along with parts and labor hours? i remember i seen some one else post that they did one but i forgot who it was

Waayyyyy to expensive man. It's been done but it's definately not worth it at all. Just wait and look around. There are PLENTY of manuals out there. I've seen a bunch for sale around here.(indiana) All I have to say it wait until you find what you want. I've seen so many people just buy a car because that was all that was availible and EVERY one of them regrets it. I almost did it too but thankfully I waited and now I got exactly what I wanted.

I'm going to be doing the swap early summer. 5spd transmission, xcase, clutch slave & master, brake + clutch pedal assembly, transmission mount, shifter cables + shifter assembly all for 330$. And I can get a rear diff for ~50$. How the hell is that expensive? When you do the swap you will learn more and know how everything works. Besides it gives you and excuse to go ACT2600 + ACT flywheel like I am :sneaky:

Its a different story if you end up with an auto 1g and you mod it pretty moderately. Then its worth it just swapping drivetrains. But if you have a stock auto dsm, then yes just sell it and buy a manual.

Be sure to let us know how mad you are when the springs pop out of that ACT disc and possibly punch a hole in the bellhousing of your new tranny.

You always have someone posting "just buy a manual" I have a few words to say but im keeping them off-line. Im doing the swap. If its FWD not a huge problem, AWD you got some work ahead of you. Ive been reading up on it , ever sence my Auto is been giving me problems. Your biggest expense will be the trans, but if your trans is good, sell it, and start putting the money back for the parts you need. Now i got lucky, I have someone intereseted in my rear end/axles and trans, so its going to be realy Not Out of My Pocket converson. I got lucky finding the right person to get my parts from. Now the clutch im buying new and posabley the flywheel, axles if im lucky to get the trans with them. But all in all, if you have the time, tools, and the money, do it, if you cant, then the opening says it all.

Just my .02$ Good luck.

i purchased my car as an automatic and i regret it now. I thought about selling my car and buying a manual. I didnt want to get rid of my car because i was too attached to it. Plus my car only had 27,000 miles on it when i did the swap. I completed the swap about 6 months ago and i love it. I threw in an act 2100 and a flywheel too and couldnt be happier. If anyone has any questions, you can pm me.

Sorry about my previous post bro. I didn't realize how bad it sounded... I was at work and in a "mood." I hope your swap goes well. If you have trouble finding a manual rear-end hit me up. I have a viscous 3 bolt in tip top shape (just need to pull it out of the car). Again, I apoligize for being an ass. OMG <== thats something you don't see on a message board everyday LOL.

Cheers,

Dustin
