1G grinds going into 3rd gear

i have a 92 eclipse gst 5 speed whenever im going to shift into 3rd it grinds a little bit not really bad but bad enough where i just want it to stop and get this fixed before it gets worst does anyone know what might cuasing this and how i can get it fixed?
 
im sorry im not really familar with the 5 speeds yet i used to own a automatic can u kinda explain what im looking for and how to fix it
 
most likely its your synchro for your third gear which is in your transmission. it will cause it to not slide into its possition right and make that grinding noise. it will spread to the rest of your tranny if not taken care of soon. so i would suggest that you bring it to a transmission shop to have them take a look at it..
 
its weird tho becuz if im in a rush and i dont let the car warm up it doesnt grind at all when its cold? it just gets worst and worse as the car warms up
 
try adjusting your clutch! Set the breaking point a little higher, that may help your situation...It fixed a tiny 3rd gear grind i was having...Good luck tho..Dan
 
Before you get too into it I'd suggest trying to change the tranny fluid. Use about a 75w-90 gear lube. From what you are saying about it is fine when it's cold and gets worse as it warms up sounds to me like it's either time for an oil change or that you put in the wrong weight. Just my .02 cents. :thumb:
 
Ok....sorry dude. I dont mean to 'rain on ur parade' by 'taking away your post', but I replaced my tranny(jdm), clutch, flywheel resurfaced, clutch master cylinder replaced(o.e.m.) adjusted clutch master cylinder, have the shifter bearing 'mod' and it grinds into 3rd only. What/why could it be? When its in 3rd gear the shifter, to me moves a lil too much to the sides, but again, why?

This happened in my last car (not DSM). More than likely, it was my synchros, as the particular transmission was known to have weak internals. I had it down to where I could shift relatively quick with a bit of timing. Whenever I raced, I just slammed it into gear and let it grind. But otherwise, driving around, I had the timing down to where it never grinded. Not sure if that's a possibility for you, but unless you're ready to tear into it, it might be something to try.
 
Ok, I tore it apart b4 we(dad & I) put it in because I needed to make sure the ratios were correct and nothing was bad internally. Everything was good, just very normal MINIMAL wear. Put grease where it needed to be put BG syncroshift 2 in tranny and xcase. Not sure wat else can be. It MIGHT be the xcase needs fluid, because only about 1pt was put it. That was all i had left after I put in tranny. When I go slowly in 3rd because do not want to make it grind, I can feel the gears kinda 'push me back'. But everything looked pretty much great when taken apart. So I have no idea of wat it can be. Anyone??? :cry:
