yesterday i started to have starting problems and it sounded like there were rocks in my tranny when i was cranking wiht the clutch pedal in. but no problems when i started it with the clutch out and in nuetral. so i got it home and the step on the flywheel is rubbing on the transfercase.

also when i came out of the dentist office i noticed a huge spot of tranny fluid. my guess is the rubbing wore so much from the transfercase that it is leaking now. i will pull it apart and c what i find.

and ideas why the flywheel would rub against the x-case?

had my lil sis push in the clutch while i was under the car, the whole tranny shifted. my bolts came loose :notgood: glad this is all that happened.

as for the leak i think that the drivers side cv seal is shot b/c of the tranny movement b/w shifts

sorry for the wasted space

it went from bad to worse. i was tighening up my tranny bolts and saw a crack. goes all the way around the top 2 bolts. then there is another one around the bottom bolt and around the slave cylinder.

what could i possibly screw up if i ran it like this? cuz i really dotn have a choice. both my car and my moms car are down. could i possibly limp around on this tranny until i scrounged up the money to get another 22 spline tranny? or would it be to risky?

thanks
joey

Unfrotunatelly its only going to get worse if you keep driving. Your clutch may come apart
and its allready srating to damage your flywheel and t-case. The cheapest way to fix this
is to get a new bellhousing.

dang i never thought of getting a new/diff bellhousing. are they the same on fwd and awd models, and turbo/nt, and splines?

also i found a tranny but the guy doesnt know how many splines it is. even if it is diff than mine all i got to do is get the x-case from him as well right? or is there more 2 it than that?

thanks very much

The awd bellhousing is different from a fwd one. I would get both the trans and t-case
if you don't use the t-case, you can allways sell it.

Or just buy a blown tranny for real cheap and swap housings. Won't rally matter
what spline count it is, because you will use your old internals

i was curious if the bell housing was different per spline count. but it makes sense that it would be the same.

i have read some stuff about guys changing to a diff spline count and swapping in a x-case with the same count, and then blowing their rearend. is this true, or are their certain conditions to be met?

so as long as i stay with a tranny and transfercase from a car with a 4 bolt rearend i will be fine?

I think you are getting confused. Just find another 1g awd tranny and swap bellhousings or find a good welding shop and you may be able to have yours welded depending on how bad the cracks are.

If they guy doesnt know what the spline count is have him count it or see if he knows what year car it is out of.

Which trans do you have in the car now? Because there is some differences with
the shifter between the 90 and the 91 & up.

As far as the rear end it won't make any difference.
