I did my search and did not find exactly what i was looking for. I stopped by my local mechanic shop that is installing my new rebuilt shortblock and i noticed that the throw out bearing was making this weird noise everytime i spun it. I was wondering if a bad throw out bearing could be one of the causes why my first gear grinds when i try to put it in 1st. Before my clutchwork i had done a couple months back, it never grinded in any gears and ive never dogged my tranny. Well the only thing making me angry right now other than the last motor taking a shit on me in less than a week is the grind i get when i put it in 1st. Very occasionally it wont grind. If i go from 2nd to first, theres no grind at all but the transmission shifts are very smooth and nothing bad at all to make me start rebuilding my tranny right now. i was just wondering if a bad Throwout Bearing could be a cause of grinding in 1st cause i know a synchro is probably a huge possibility if it isnt the tob.

you could be having problems because of either your clutch is meesed up. or you have an air pocket in your lines and need to bleed the clutch. but the throw out bearing??? that would rattle only if the clips on the bearing broke or the bearing clip had popped off.

The throwout bearing is certainly a possibility to the grinding. Throw out bearings start making noise when they are going out. Hold the outter race of the bearing with one hand and apply pressure to the inner race as you spin it with the other. If it feels "bumpy" or catches it is bad and needs replaced. It should spin smooth. Either way I would replace it while its out and everything is apart.

Did you try to adjust your clutch pedal after the clutch work had been done?

Unfortunately i didnt. Ive been having alot of motor issues with the car that i never had time..i kinda gave up for awhile. I A friend of mine bleed the slave cylinder and noticed all the air bubbles. But even after the bleed, it still grinded when u pressed the clutch all the way to the floor (and i mean all the day down) and put it in 1st. Im gonna have the local mechanic adjust the clutch pedal like u said, because at first thoughts thats what came in my mind.

Gary 420 RS, My clutch is fine. It doesnt even have 2,000 miles on it yet and i never ran the car hard with the new clutch. I took a look at the clutch today and it looks in mint condition.

If you were to put the car in 1st gear, And start it.. Would the car want to creep forward? If so, your clutch needs adjusting. I hadto adjust my clutch because it would grind in 1st and reverse after my clutch work.

I think it kind of wanted to creep forward. Would it really be that damn hard for someone to adjust the clutch. I mean i just had a motor installed not more than 4 months ago and it was grinding way before than. Either the mechanic shop doesnt know how to adjust clutches or i just have pure bad luck. My clutch died before i had my motor installed. So i wouldve guessed when the motor and everything was out of my car 4 months back, they would have adjusted the clutch. I could be wrong, maybe they didnt do a good job. Whatever is going on, i damn sure well know my tranny was fine and wasnt ran hard. Ever since clutch installation, it grinded only in 1st. And i think i had a small grind in reverse now that i think of it. It definitely seems like a clutch adjustment issue to me.

1993eclipseGS, why doesnt it grind if i go from 2nd to first, not downshifting, i mean like at a dead stop if i put it in 2nd and then i put it in first, i can start off in 1st without any grind. But when i downshift from 2nd to 1st while car is moving, it will grind

Thanks

If I were you I would just go back in with a brand new TOB, adjust and bleed the clutch accordingly and see what happens. The clutch isnt really that hard to adjust it's just a paint to get to because its way up under the dash. Check out this article for help if you are going to do it yourself.
