I am replacing my clutch with one that is not as aggressive on me and my tranny, what do some of you to recommend me using? I presently have a ACT 2600 and it has caused me damage to the trans. I am thinking of having the trans rebuilt by a local dealer (if quoted with a distant price). I am must likely upgrading my shift forks to steel so I can reuse my stock trans with out having a arm and leg. What clutch would be great to run in and cheap but will hold at the same time with out causing future trouble.

With your set up i would go for a 2100. Also if you plan on geting your trans done i would go for a center diff. Its usually the first thing to go. Just rember that one thing has to give. Too much clutch will mess up the trans, no enough clutch the trans will eat the clutch up in no time. Like I said a 2100 would be a good balance for your set up.

well i really woundt reccomend the 2100 if your awd unless you really dont plan on making any extra power. if i were you id check out SBR's (slowboyracing.com) clutch. they say it has about the same clamping force as the 2600, but that should be no problem if your getting your trans rebuilt w/ new forks, and the clutch pedal pressure feels very close to stock clutch pressure. the whole kit sells for about $400

I just ordered the new SBR 4000 clutch. Team SBR says that the design helps in preventing the damage to the trans...and on 7 bolts they say they are better than the 2600 for preventing crankwalk. And yes I realize this isn't eliminating..i'm talking about preventing crackwalk.

SBR is a LOT stiffer than stock. I havent driven a car with a 2600, but the SBR is no joke on pedal pressure (drove my friends car that recently had one installed) and it was a workout on my left leg for sure. I like the south bend dxd clutches.

I'm coming from the world of having an older clutchmaster stage 3 clutch. Crag said that the SBR 4000 will be alot less than that. I'm sure that it's not going to be "stock" feeling...but the one I had before was like pushing on a brick wall.

DSMJIM runs low 12s on a 2100

What about the CenterForce Dual Friction? Isn't it a good combination of high clamping force with almost stock pedal feel? And how much whp does it support on a awd?

I dont think what project-tsi said is accurate. It depends on what 'power' means. I have an awd with act 2100 with street disc. This is my first and only clutch I ever put on this car. It isnt my daily driver anymore but it still holds great. Ive ran numerous 13 sec quarter mile times and put hundreds of launches and races with no problem. I just got done installing a different tranny and the clutch looked like it was only about halfway gone. Once this goes out, Im purchasing another 2100. :thumb:

Is there any good definitive guide to selecting a clutch??? I'm looking to make about 440hp at the crank, don't want to risk the huge clamping force, and extreme leg excercise. however i want to have something that will last with minimal beating (no drag racing, but auto-x and track days) and hold the power i'm trying to put through to all 4 wheels.

However my knowledge in differences between 4 puck and 6 puck, or pros and cons of SBR vs ACT vs unorthodox racing clutches is making this decision quite difficult.

I got my SBR 4000 installed and running. I only have like 20 miles on it but it seems great. I'm trying not to rag on it, but I havn't driven a manual tranny car since oct and the clutch is not really that stiff. I know it's not stock feel...but damn close. I would recommend it for anyone. :thumb:

p.s..i'll let you guys know how it launches after i break it in :dsm:

what are you smoking? i have and SBR on my 2g awd and it feels just like stock! Your legs must be toothpicks if you are having trouble with a SBR clutch. If you think a SBR is stiff then you probably wouldn't even get a 2600 out of first gear!
