Tranny Go BOOM.....

so needless to say trans went buh bye. so far my problem has stumped a couple of my mechanic friends so far. heres what happened, i was cruising on the highway in some traffic so i dropped to third and was cruising at like 40 or 50. traffic opened up and i gave it like 75% throttle, while in third this whole time. as soon as i gave it gas, BOOM. the whole car slammed foward and i saw some smoke from all around the front end. then it sounded like the trans waas literally dragging across the ground. i get i pull over and look under and the trans is still mounted but the fluid is all dripping out. if i try and put it in gear it makes this horrible chattering noise and wont engage.
so now here is a new twist. i got under the car today in my garage, and the axles seem to be pulled fromt he trans. i dont know if they were yanked out, but the boots are definetly torn to hell and the greese is every where form the boots.

anyone ever see this. i am thinking somehting broke and locked the trans, and my momentum cause the axles to pull out. any idea what broke?

right now the trans is still in the car. it will be out monday so the damage can better be assesed. just curious if anyone has experienced somehting similar.


here is another kicker. the trans that is in there now, was rebuilt *** 10k miles ago. :thumbdown and my mods (in profile) have not changed since the rebuild. so i am not exactly recomending them for trans work. cuz this trans ####ed out for some reason, and i definely dont have a lot of power. :thumbdown :thumbdown :thumbdown

sorry to hear about your situation but why are you already assuming that the rebuild *** was bad? you haven't taken it out and you have put 10k miles on the trans since then. just my .02 cents

I feel your pain dude, mine went 3 weeks ago. I was just driving when I heard what sounded like something was dragging under the car. Got out looked under the car and fluid was just pouring out. I somehow cracked the housing taking a large chunk out of it. I ended up going with Shepard.

hey, ive already talked to you about this. If it was somethign we caused to go wrong, we will cover it, But i know you and ive seen you race your car more then once witch leads me to believe it wasnt our fault. Again if anything we did caused this we will take full responsiblity. Jim

yea i dont blame AMS anymore. i was just enraged before. it turned out that my diff blew. so i geuss i was just to hard on it. my mechanic said my suspension is super shitty, so he thinks thats why i have gone thorugh 2 trans in a year. sorry for ragging on ams.

Hopefully nothing that broke in the diff got into the rest of the trans. If theres no gear damage, differentials are not that expensive to replace. 2g fwd trannys are NOT easy to find, as they break more than any other DSM trans. Jon at TRE said they RARELY RARELY get a good 2g fwd core that nothing is broken. Best of luck man.

This is a prime example what not to do. If everyone just stoped and thought about what is going on instead of pointing fingers right away a thread like this wouldn't get started and the few people that read it, wont have a bad side about our shop. Jim
