Well, I got the talon running again. And I noticed a strange sound, it sounds like its coming from the front-driver side wheel hub, or maybe the front-driver side axle. The sound is sorta like a constant quiet growling that raises in pitch/volume as the car goes faster.

Also, it makes the noise if its in gear or not, as long as the car is rolling it makes a sound like a skateboard wheel rolling on concrete.

Hoping maybe some of u have had the same prob and can shed some light on this for me :talon:

Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me. Does it make more/less noise going around corners?

Thanx for ur reply, and no sir, it makes the same quiet roar weather im turning or not, i think it might be a CV joint that needs grease... does this make sense? i just got it out of the shop and when it went in I dont remember it making the noise but they pressure washed the underside of the car and it may be a stupid idea but maybe they washed some grease out?

Well they will not ALWAYS make more noise when turning. CV joints dont whirr, they click or clunk. Also, unless you have a ripped boot you would not wash the grease out. I would replace the front wheel bearing, as that is the problem.

Haha. I had this problem, and no one could answer this for me. Damn near killed me trying to find it. Check your wheel bearings first, but then give this a try. There is something mentioned in the factory service manual as the "half shaft member". It is a set of bearings that bolts to the engine block to simulate equal-length half shafts. It's designed to combat torque steer. When it goes, it sounds like a bad rubber seal, almost like a metal on rubber or metal on metal squeal. Mine was temperature sensative at first, making noise only when the car heated up. After replacing both wheel bearings and still having this noise drive me nuts, I replaced the member. Noise has been gone for about a year now.

Symptoms were exactly what you describe. Steering wheel direction did not matter. Tranny in/out did not matter. Clutch in/out did not matter. Braking did not affect it, but it was most definately speed sensitive. The pitch of the noise varied with my speed, and the noise was evident from 5-80MPH.

Matt.
