Whats up guys... I just had an Aamco tranny rebuild, and had them install a new stock clutch while thye were at it. the tranny sounds absolutely beautiful now, but the clutch is slipping under full boost (with stock engine ... i need to install a lot of my parts).

I am under the impression from a couple of friends of mine that this is a normal occurance with a new clutch and a resurfaced flywheel. It only happens in 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear, where the torque is the highest.. i was just wondering if it will go away after a certain number of miles, or if i'm going to have to go back to aamco and have them make use of that 1 year warranty :)

Thanx ahead of time!

That's not normal and I would think your clutch would be more likely to slip in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. With the higher gear there is more load on the clutch because the motor is tring to make the car go faster but with the higher speed there is more resistance against the car. That is where mine was slipping when it went out.

Anyway your clutch sould not be slipping when it is new. Make sure it is adjusted right.

Did you break it in properly? I suggest 500mile break ins. If you didn't go the 500mi. then I wouldn't be doing full throttle pulls in any gear especially 3, 4, and 5. Good luck, hope you get it figured out.

i have only heard it slip out a couple of times, and i immediately let off of the throttle. I am in the process of breaking it in, and i guess my question now is whether those couple of millisecond slips have done any damage, or can i still break it in properly?

It may be alright, I would give it a little while before you tear the tranny out again. At worst they resurfaced your flywheel wrong or have a faulty clutch.

How does the clutch pedal feel, and where does it start to engage?

Mike

the pedal feels fine, engages about half way out, plenty of room on the out end to fully engage... i do not ride it...

It definitely feels soft compared to what it was however... I expected this during the breakin periods however, expecting it to harden as i broke it in
