First post in this forum because I normally use DSMTalk....

Anywy...

I grenaded my 98 GSX MTX tranny last night. My BG LSD snapped the final drive pin and once that happened very bad things followed. Basically my front diff is gone and the tranny case is cracked. I also lost my clutch disk to a flood of royal purple.

I have a buddy with a 95 GSX MTX parts car. I know the 97-99 XFER cases are different but I dont know why....I am guessing gear ratios but I dont know for sure.

Is a 98 tranny and xfer a new improved design over the 95?
Is there a problem I should be aware of reguarding swapping the tranny and xfer from the 95?

Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated.

You can't, the drive ratios don't match up. Basically you'll end up spinning the rear more than the front. You'll have to get one for a 97-99 car.

I thought the drive ratio issue would be corrected by having a matching tranny and xfer case since all 95-99 rearends are the same.

I was under the impression that you had to have a matching tranny and transfer case but that it.

I want to know what is different between the 95/96 and 97-99 trannies.

Err, I'm an idiot, and should have read more closely. The other two guys are correct... the rear from a 97-99 will work fine with a 95-96 tranny/xfer-case combo, and vice versa.
