Sticky Shifter Assembly?

I've had this problem since I bought the car a while back and it's plagued me ever since. If I move the shifter from side to side it doesn't want to spring back to where it should be (ya know right in the center). It just sticks to one side and isn't at all springy and bouncy like it should be. I was just wondering what the hell this could be and what I gots to do to fix it. Any help is very much appreciated.
