Labor for clutch install

How much have you all paid for the labor on a clutch install on a second gen gsx? I gave the mechanic everything he needed(clutch, flywheel, clutch line, tranny fluid). I figured it would be like 300 bucks or so but a freind stopped by the shop today and the mechanic told him it was over 10 hours labor to put the clutch in? Does that sound right? Sounded like a little more labor than I was planning on.

If they are going by the labor book, then yes it may be in the neighbor of 10 hrs...but its BS....but that is how garages figure out jobs.

If you take to do a DSM specialist like Shepherd, Buschur, Road Race, Extreme, ect. They are familiar with the car so they know it only takes 4 hours. DSM shops are in the $300 ball park for a 2g Awd.


Consider doing it yourself. Its not that bad. Grab a 12.5lb ACT flywheel, this way you don't have to worry about getting your old one cut and whether or not they listened to you and cut the flywheel to the proper step height.

Its already at the shop, thats the thing. I dropped the car and the clutch off yesterday. Today my freind went by to see when it would be done and they told him it was going to be around 10 hours of labor. That just sounded like a long time to me. I just wanted to see how long it took other people.

4 hours sounds about right.

It took me and some friends about 10 hours to do it on the sidewalk without the proper tools. I'd think a shop would do it much quicker with the good tools.

I was going by labor prices for a couple vendors such as slowboy and prostreet. They were both around 300. I wouldnt think a local shop would be too much more. I guess we'll see.
