Trannys the good the bad the ugly

Here is my situation, i have a 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD and i have no first gear. i took it to my local tranny shops and they wont fix it they said they would only buy a new one and replace it. So i am wondering what my choices are. I know of stock trannys, switchable , and Galant trannys. if anyone has any thoughts about it that would be great. I can change out the tranny myself. So im just wondering which one would be a good choice.

What kind of tranny shop tells you that they "Won't" do something? Just find another shop, because the price of a new tranny is around 1100.00 as to where taking out the tranny yourself, delivering it to the shop and having first gear fixed will run about 200-400 dollars.

BTW noticed you are in Dayton I'm only about 20 minutes from there. I know we have tranny shops that will work on it, saying it's not completely destroyed.

Holy crap. you are the first person I have ever seen RECOMMEND AAMCO. Personally, I would run from them.

Hehe I know, I've "heard" alot of bad, but personally experiencing some of the work they've done on two different cars my wife had, I never had another problem. In comparison to the other shops in Springfield....go AMMCO

You might have some people with a brain at the AAMCO by you then. If you do, then stick wit 'em. The ones by me are horrible. Back when I knew nothing about cars, let alone trans, I was more knowledgable than they were!
