if the bottom of the shock absorber is touching against the boot on the axle, could this cause it to rip and leak out all of the grease and then making my weelbearings come out?

Basic physics is going to tell you that when you rub two objects together friction is created. One or the other surfaces is going to eventually wear thin from the friction. I doubt it would be the metal shock...so it has to be the rubber boot.

How is your axle shaft boot rubbing the shock? Do you have a camber compensation kit? Is the car lowered?

see i understand that if rubs it will wear through the rubber, but i just
don't see that it could have done it wiht in a weeks time. and i'm talking
about the boot tearing apart and the wheel bearings coming out. and
i didn't drive it that much in the weeks time. and yes it is lowered, it has
eibach sportlines on her that has been cut. no i don't have a camber kit, but the front wheels aren't slanting inward just the back ones. and the
passenger side front axle doesn't even touch the shock. i'm just trying
to narrow down what is actually causing the axle to break apart.
thanx for your input

Was this a new axle shaft that was destroyed or an old one that was already on the car? So it is the LR that is having this problem only. How far away are the shocks from the rubber boots on the other wheels?
This will give me an idea what is wrong, but I'm thinking that it's a great possibility that your spring on the LR side was cut to short, just short enough that it isn't noticeable, but rubs the axleshaft boot. In fact if it's parked and that boot is touching that is going to be about the only theory I have on why it's touching. UNLESS the rear Diff is having a problem and putting more stress on that shaft than the other.

it is the drivers side front, sorry, and it does touch the shock when it is just sitting there. and yes it was a brand new axle from napa.

Well it's going to be a PITA...but I would seriouly consider taking the wheel off and inspecting, if not disassembling the whole spindle, brakes, springs, and strut if nessessary to find out what the problem could be. I'm leaning towards a spring that was cut just a hairt to short. But you are the one that cut them therefore only you know how short they are. Definately inspect the whole assembly for something that may be bent or was left out by accident. (can't think of anything that COULD be left out...) Or you can go for the cheap fix and get the compensation kit, unless you've had it on an alignment machine there is no real way to tell if the wheels are tilted. It may be such a slight difference that you can't really tell just by looking.

thanks zerocygnal, and i wasn't the one who cut them so i don't know
for sure that they where done right. i bought it from someone that had
it and built it, not his daily driver, and a couple months after that he sold it to me, cause he needed the money. and he never tuned it. but anyway, i was wanting someone else opion before i started doing anything else.

hey zerocygnal, i was thinking about this last night and i was wondering,
when you lower a car is the body the only thing that is lowered? see i was thinking that it is, and how the shock is bolted to the wheel assembly
would it itself actually be lowered too? i was thinking that it wouldn't, am i wrong about this? i'm just trying to exclude all possibilities.thanks

I am having the same problem, Changed out my passenger side half-shaft because my boot was torn and within the week the new cv boot was torn, spilling grease all over. I noticed that the bottom of my shock/strut was in contact with the very end of the boot where it had ripped. No clearence at all. The shock/strut doesnt even go near the boot on the driver side and I haven't ever done anything with my shocks/struts. Car's never been lowered etc. So I am perplexed and aside from taking it in and having someone who knows more tell me what it is, I'd be curious if anyone else had or knows how to fix the issue. Today I changed out the shaft with a new one and I just know that it will tear again soon, still rubbing. Any ideas?
