Poor transmission shift: Manual transmissions in which the shifter does not move smoothly between gears need a bottle of friction modifier added to the oil through the speedometer gear opening. (1990-92)

I saw this on ConsumerGuide.com. Where is this speedometer gear opening? Someone please point this out if they have done it to their car. I installed a 2600 ACT clutch added Pennzoil Syncromesh but the shift is still not smooth.

The speedocable is in the back of the tranny. In betwen the tranny and the fire wall. Its almost under the intake manifold.Your going to have a hard time putting oil in ther.If you take the battery out it will be easier. good luck

I used some mopar friction modifier in my trans with pennzoil syncromesh, nothing changed for me, still notchy/grindy as hell, Its going in for rebuild soon.
That doesnt sound too good then. A waste of time and money then? Just must be Mitsu trannies. Or is it Chrysler's trannies?

The Mopar friction modifier is used prodominantly in rear differentials with LSD's in them. These LSD's use clutches in them to engage the LSD feature. The Dana 44, Corporate 8.25 and a few other differentials use this FM to lubricate the discs.

Symptoms of an LSD rear diff without the addative include groaning noises and tires chirping especially when performing parking lot manuevers and tight turns.

This is the first timeI have heard of it being added to a transmission.

I know it says that right on the bottle, but a guy on tuners said he added 2oz of it to his trans and it fixed his notchiness, I figured why not, my trans is on its way out. If anything it made it worse :thumbdown

Swordfish bought some mitsu friction modifier from mitsu. He said he felt a difference. I dont know the price or the part number tho.
