hey,

i just sent in my input and intermediate shafts to Shep to put new gears and synchros on. got everything back together and after spending all day working got it back in the car. fire it up let out on the clutch while it's in neutral and it dies just like it would in gear. wtf??? i can move the shifter just like normal except it wont go into any gears at all!!! and when it's in neutral, the tranny is still clearly in gear.

i need some help pleeease!!!! :thumb:

i talked to shep and he thinks i might have forgotten to put in a roll pin and that my tranny is in 2 gears at once. i just wanted a second (or third....) opinion before i start to drop that stupid thing back out of my car again. thanks! :thumb:

Option 1. Send the whole tranny to someone who knows what they're doing.

Option 2. Fix it yourself. First, look around for any leftover parts from the rebuild, put them back in where they came from. There is a possibility that you left out any of the following parts; one of the roll pins that holds the shift forks on the rails, restrictor ball assebly (if you don't know what that is, look it up), or the thing that actuates the reverse gear lever- it's inside the base of the 1/2 shift fork and looks like a 1 cm long rod with rounded ends.

It's also wise to test the tranny BEFORE you put it in the car. All you have to do it turn the input shaft by hand while pushing the shift/select levers into each gear.

i know i put everything back in the way it is supposed to be. i had no leftover parts, i put all the roll pins back in (there are 3 of them right?) everything to do with the reverse idler gear is good, and the restrictor bal l assembly is in right too.

i've already started pulling my tranny back out, so i guess we'll see how things go. if anybody can think of anything else, let me know
thanks guys :thumb:

pneumo Option 1. Send the whole tranny to someone who knows what they're doing.

So pneumo your telling me that shep doesn't know what he's doing regarding transmissions ?

No. I think you need to take a course in Reading Comprehension.

Here's your first lesson. In the first post u6t9 wrote that Shep rebuilt ONLY the gearsets. Shep didn't touch the rest of the tranny. That's why I suggested that the u6t9 have the WHOLE tranny rebuilt by someone who knows what they're doing.

Did you even read the post right above your post? If so, what did YOU think it meant? Just in case you don't know, u6t9 is talking about assembling the other parts inside his tranny. Get it?

he's not saying that Shep doesn't know what he's doing, he's saying that i dont know what i'm doing! it's all good though, sh!t happens.....too bad i have to tear out my tranny again though. that really blows.....thanks for the help. i'll let you guys know what was wrong when i get it figured out. :thumb:

i fixed it!!!! the problem was that i put the slider for my 5th/rev. on upside down. all i had to do was flip that over and away we go. i wish i would have known that before i removed transmission from car but that's ok!!!!i'm just so happy that i fixed it!!!
:thumb: thanks for the help gents
