Strange clunk or thump from passenger side

I have a 1997 Eclipse GST. My car has a ACT 2100 with a 6 puck sprung disk. Here is my problem. Stock axles.. 125,000 miles

My car, since i bought it in october 2003, always made a small "click" coming from the passenger side when i was moving from a stop. Just one click, thats all.. but it never got worse or better. Then I raced a porsche GT3 the other night and launched my car pretty hard. Now it makes a "thump" when i take off instead of a "click". The sound is random and doesn't always just make one thump, sometimes 2, sometimes none. but it does it in every gear. If i put it in 5th, for example, and get up to about 2800rpms... let off and let it decelerate for a moment, then tap the gas(1/3rd down) it makes a "thump" and kind of shutters. But if i ease on the gas, nothing. It's the same for every gear, but when i downshift coming to a stop, it doesn't thump at all during a downshift.

I assume it is my passenger side axle.. but i don't know what on the axle would make such a noise. Please, help... This sound is making me go nuts, that and I am scared to push my car due to me not wanting to make things worse.

lost by 2 cars, but i am only boosting 11lbs on my 16g and stock ass motor... oh well.. when i get her turned up, it should be closer. I have a boost leak problem right now, that and my exhaust mani has a really big leak at the o2 pipe, so big you can feel air rushing out at idle.

*update*
Took it to a friend of mine and he thinks it could be a rear motor mount or tarnny mount.. is this possibly correct? I will find out for sure later this week, just wanna know your opinions.

i was in the same boat as you. i noticed thumping coming from my engine bay, couldn't figure out what it was, checked 2 of the clearly visible motor mounts and they were cracked, so replaced them, then still more thumping, checked the other 2 none visible mounts, they were messed up too.. replaced them, now no thumping. However, there could be clunking noises coming from the lower brace that goes under the engine and mounts one of the motor mounts, just by having it a little bit loose, the engine can have enough power to make it thump under heavy load. Check all those, make sure u tighten all the suspension parts and that brace really right, especialy where it connects to the front of the car (under the radiator). I am sure it will work. Pete

it might sound dumb but check your wheel studs my car was making a funny clunk sound and now I have 3 broken wheel studs. Just my 2 cents

thanks guys... I am gonna have them put it on a lift tomorrow and take a look.. it's buggin me really bad, i haven't run this thing in a month..
