After numerous tries to get the drain bolt out, i finally changed my tranny fluid (replaced w/ BG Synchroshift). IT CAME OUT COMPLETELY SILVER. Is this normal? Or do i basically have a whole gear's worth of shavings in my fluid. It shifts fine, and while it is slightly notchy, it is a 1G, so its to be expected.

On a sidenote, anyone have experience or know of a place that has information on putting a 2G awd tranny in a 1G? Is it a straight drop in?

A 2G will not work becasue of the mounts. Normally you will see some sliver in the fluid if it grinds, but a bunch might be a sign of inpending doom. Try and get a magnetic plug and see how much sticks to it.

Just put new fluid in it for now, and see how it runs. Then start saving up for a rebuild.

metal shavings in your tranny fluid are the first signs of something going wrong.....the 2g tranny won't fit, like everyone else said, the mounts aren't the same.

Yea silver I was there at the time of change.

Its sitting in my garage right now. I think ill take a pic and post this afternoon after class.

Check back around 4pm today

P.S. Marcus Herman can rebuild your tranny! He sold you the best TSi around so id expect the same from his rebuilds.

mine was silver also, and i just rebuilt the thing. Maybe its cause it was just breaking in. BUt i have not had any problems with it at all since i rebuilt it.

The end is near my friend!!!

I had the same thing happen to my old transmission a while back. I went to drain the year old GM Synchromesh and it came out completely silver. It looked like glitter when I held it up to the light!

I went ahead and put some fresh fluid in it. About 3 months later my shifting was just plain horrible! All my gears were extremely notchy so I swapped in a replacement transmission. When I drained the fuild again, my fluid was gold/bronze and very shiny.

I'd start saving for a rebuild in the NEAR future.:thumbdown
