Those guys probably pull their rear axles, as well. That way the rear diff isn't rotating.

If you tried that again, which you shouldn't, you would probably notice that the axle that snapt will be spinning rather rapidly compared to the axle on the ohter side. The function of the differential is to compensate the outside wheel in a turn to travel the greater distance. Doesn't sound like you have a lsd.

no i do have lsd but i snaped the axel inside the unit right behind the splines. but the car moves but very slowly, like the clutch is extremly worn, maybe i meesed up the tranny also, thats y the first thing i did was pull the trans i replace the clutch

Wait a minute.
If you have a limited SLIP differential, and you also say that the car feels like the clutch is slipping, maybe the lsd is slipping...I had a cv joint snap whan I was on the highway one time (with my corolla)and I could rev the engine as high as I wanted and the car would go nowhere In gear (open diff, not lsd). You say you car moves abit as if the clutch was slipping. maybe your riding the diff as if it where a clutcth. I'm pretty sure these cars are equiipped with some type of viscous lsd, as opposed to a solid disk lsd like this Kaaz one...
Crazy article to read @ 4:00am (man I'm tired)
That's my theory.....
anyone?

We have two things working in our favor when we snap our rear axles (BTW, very common occurrence on 90-91 3 bolt rear ends). First, it is our rear LSD (when so equipped) and then, there is our center diff LSD.

One of two of those LSDs are enough to keep you moving and limp home. So that is not something that would leave you stranded. One of my friends once made it home form Ohio to Boston (720miles) on a broken rear axle.

Just take it easy, make sure that the axle can not come loose and you should be OK.
