Ok, I just got my 90 FWD Turbo Laser about a month ago and have been taking it easy with the racing and stuff. But about 2 days ago, I decided to take the RPM's a little bit higher, more spirited driving as you may. On the shift from 1st to 2nd it "ground" all the way in and that scared me. Afraid of a bad shift or bad tranny I tried again, with a slower motion and it did not grind but the RPM's drop too low, too fast when shifting that slow. Also, reverse is a pain in the a$$ to get into gear. Want to know if I need a new tranny? New tranny fluid and flush? Need help!
 
Sounds like your 2nd gear synchro is wore out. I'm not sure about your problems with reverse. You can try new tranny fluid, but that's just a band aid.
 
It could be a number of things, have you checked your clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, fluid, and the most recent problem i found with our clutching mechanism is a weak spot where the clutch pedal rod attaches to the clutch pedal lever that attaches to the c bracket that attaches to the mater cylinder. Luckily mine was not worn but the lock washer had some how not worked and the nut backed off and I could no longer disengage my clutch fully. I was just gonna take my car to Midas cause I am car illeterate and have them check it out. Good or bad idea? Can then effectively tell me what is wrong and how to fix it to last longer than OEM parts?
 
Bad idea! I just noticed that you are fairly local to me, I know live in downtown Seattle, but I could take a look at it and see if I couldn't figure out what your problem might be.

When your clutch pedal is fully depressed (out), can you pull it up a little more until it stops? Where does your clutch start to grab at? 1/4, 1/2 3/4 off the floor? Hope I can help!

Hey, Mike, yeah that would be really cool to meet up. I have had little nagging problems with my DSM since I have bought it about a month ago. You probably know some places that would hook us DSMer's up with parts at discount huh? Anyways, I need a place/garage/expert like yourself to help me get my car to run faster and track ready. Thanks man.
 
I'm no expert but I may be able to lend a hand. I would have to go out to my dads place, because I can't work on cars in my parking garage here, but that is only in Snohomish.

Did you check you clutch pedal yet?

How do I check the clutch pedal? It seems to have good engagement from what I feel and the way the car reacts to me, but I have no idea for sure. Well I live in Edmonds so that would be kind of close.
 
Actually the seats on www.ardperformance.com, I was going to buy them but I don't know if anyone has them in their car or how hard the installation is with the 4-point harnesses that Shogun makes also. Thanks.
