Transmission and clutch help

I jsut got a 91 fwd turbo tanny installed in my 92 fwd turbo,with a new oem clutch, and bg syncroshift in the trans. First gear is a biatch to get into. All installed by a friend. Ill put it in 1st gear and the pull off the clutch and give gas to launch the car the car will go no were at all and stall, kinda like trans locks up or isnt going fully into gear. Now if i continue to try 1st gear like 5 or so times it will go into gear. If tryed going from other gears into first liek 2nd or 3rd and it doesnt help. There isnt any grinding going into 1st either. Now my question is ,is it the transmission? Or is it the shift linkage? Can I adjust the linkage at all the change this?

Try adjusting your shifter cables.

this might apply to some early 91 tranny's, but i'd check your shifter bracket, linkage adjustment and clutch engagement.
