raced my friends crx si (sohc zc motor) today.
I am stock (97 gst spyder), so is he but without his backseats and spare tires.
First gear I'm about to his drivers door, second gear I'm head to head with him, third gear I'm beginning to poll slowly, fourth gear he's about to my back bumper.
Now......wtf??? what do our car run stock in the 1/4?? like low/high 15's???
anyways its sad that my car looks way better than his but his able to hang with me.....
damn my spyder.....needs to go on a diet....love the torque that my car has though compare to my honda.

are you an automatic???? That car shouldnt hang with you....the SOHC ZC motor isnt all that amazing....a turboed eclipse should smoke one...I raced one a couple months ago until about 80 from a 20mph roll, we stayed dead even with eachother....?

Not sure if there is such a thing as a sohc ZC. The US crx si motor is the sohc d16, but the ZC is the dohc japanese version of this motor (no vtec). It's good for about 30 hp more than the stock crx si we get here, and at ~2100 lbs that little hp can make a good difference.

yeah ZC DOHC is not that amazing, even in CRX. it's like 130hp without VTEC, and like 112 torque or something like that. It's nothing special, you should of smoked him badly

92-95 there was a japanese sohc zc engine which is basicly a d16z6 although if he had a crx he most likely had the 88-91 dohc zc which is approx 130hp. a partially gutted crx with 130hp and bolt-ons can do low 15's which is near what a gst spyder can do. get an intake, turbo back exhaust, and boost controller and you'll easily take him.

yeh...the spyder is heavier, and since your stock there are no worries. If you get only a BOV (1g, Greddy, or HKS are my suggestions for you now) and UICP (upper intercooler pipe) you will beat him...this will raise your boost level because the stock BOV leaks and the UICP will flow much better.

So yeh if you were to only get those two parts...you'd smoke him

should i upgrade anything if my car is showing signs of crankwalk?would this speed up crankwalk/more crankplay?

all I have to say is lotus elise....118 hp four banger does 0-60 in 5 sec. All weight to power ratio witha 99-00 si motor and simple bolt ons i.e exhaust intake fpr low 14s. But it still doesnmt have torque and uve already spent 5 grand on it. you shoulda spanked him with him having a 4 car lead ......my 2 cents

Don't mean to bring back and old topic, but I was driving my dad's GSX once and this CRX (stock) kept trying to race me. my dads car is stock to by the way. Well I was about 3 cars ahead of him not racing, and I see in my rear view mirror him downshift and start coming up. I was doing maybe 45, he was probably doing about 60. Well I threw it in second when he was beside me and I pulled on him SOOO bad. and then we got a light and he actually atempped to race me......

Wait, are you saying that the Elise's are using the Si motor? If you are, you are mistaken. Lotus is using Toyota's 180hp I-4 (the one found in the new Celicas. I do not know the engine code.) For that matter, they are also using Toyota's 6-speed gearbox Clear your thoughts, and then proceed to post as to not confuse people :thumb:

But, a stock Spyder should have no problem wasting a stock ZC engine.

SOHC ZC is real, rated power is like 110hp, it does not have VTEC.

Stock engine in an Si is the D16A6, which is rated at 105hp for 1988, and 108hp for 1989-1991.

DOHC ZC is rated at 130ps, I think that somes out to about 120-125hp. It is also a non-vtec.

With a good driver (real good) a stock CRX can pull a 16 flat, most magazines rated them at 16.5, but I have seen timeslips, so aparently they [the magazines test drivers] can't drive.

Um my mind is clear...118 hp four banger 0-60 in 5.4 sec read up then we will talk. It oinly weighs 1500 or so pounds so thats why. If it were running the 180 hp motor or the type r they put in one(fits perfectly) it would be doing alot better times than 5.4 0-60. Research please

For the regular model:

For the motor sport version or race version (not factory)

for a hopped up 98' model
http://www.elises.co.uk/models/sport135/index.html

For the upper model stocker

All the rest are after market versions, yes some do have almost 200 bhp but not from the factory and most wont pass UK emmisions(which is much easier than US regulations. I plan on importing a motorsport a few years after college(finaces willing). So like I said please research.

the dohc zc engine is 130hp rated from 88-91. the 92-95 zc engine is basicly a d16z6 and is single overhead cam vtec, rated at 125hp. if he has a 88-91 sohc zc motor (like 105hp) then you should have probley beat him with decent driving.

There is a rare OBD1 DOHC ZC that is non-VTEC. IDK much about a OBD1 SOHC ZC though, so that may be the one you speak of.

Dude, the US version of the Elise is using Toyotas 4cylinder found in the Celica, and the tansmission. It has been tweaked a little bit so it puts out 190HP. Get your facts straight.

mabey if you had your facts straight youd realize that they are thinking of bringing one over...which means there isnt a US model yet!!! Get your facts straight...not only did I search that site but I also searched Lotus UK for info too. Here is the link to prove you wrong:

http://www.elises.co.uk/models/s3usa/2003_01_announce.html

Please research like I said before, then post.

edit: I never said the elise had the si motor in it, sorry for the misunderstanding coup.

Actually they are using the Celica engines when they get to the States... one of my co-workers is getting one... it should be coming out late spring.. they had their order in for almost a year now.. but they kept delaying it.... But the guy that said that they came with the 1.8 Type R motor is also right.... that was a 2000 model... that damn thing ran a 12.8 so some ridiculous number like that... anyways... the 88-91 CRX Si came with a D16A6 with a 113hp for 90-91 and 108hp for the 88-91.... Believe on this one... I use to have a 90 and a 91 Civic hatchback Si... plus I also own a 93 EX with a B16 I/H/E.. FPR, FPG.... etc... along with my 92 Laser... So hope this cleared things up... Later Mike
