I'm going to Bristol for my first 1/4 mile drag passes Thursday, October 9 and hopefully Friday, October 17. Will anyone from here be there on those days?

Thanks I noticed the second gear thing & thought that your turbo was not staying spooled. We had that happen to us when a boost controller was not set right. I am the one with the white eagle the one with the long hair is my son.If I had not been driving I would of injoyed trying to help with your car. Just make small steps what ever you do. Good Luck.Originally posted by whatturbo
Hi.
Thanks for the kind words, but I think my driving is anything but impressive. My best that night was a 13.6 @ 102 with a 1.83 60'. Most of my problem is my shift to 2nd. I guess I don't keep it revved enough so it bogs really bad into 2nd. I logged a couple of runs where the 2nd shift bogged to 3,900 RPMs. That's horrible. It's almost like having to launch twice. That was on pump gas too.
I emailed the track to see if the "open all night" rumor was true and the Bristol Dragway rep said they'll only run until 11:00pm. I live about 2 hours from there and have to work Friday until 6:00pm. By the time I got home and got my car I wouldn't make it until almost 9:00pm. Rockingham is open until the end of November, so I'll probably go down there a couple of times before they close it. I'm hoping for 13.2 or better on pump, then I'll put some race gas in it and see how far into the 12s I can get. Maybe I'll see you next year. Good luck.

Those are nice times Shawn.Originally posted by whatturbo
Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear about the head gasket. The second gear thing is all my fault. The night we met was the first time I had ever been to a 1/4 mile track and the first time racing on my ACT 2600. I've since figured out the 2nd gear thing on the street. I have had the stock clutch the whole time I've had the car, so I was shifting where I thought the clutch would hold. As I begin to trust the clutch more, I can shift mutch faster. I logged a couple of street runs into 2nd gear, and now I can keep the car above 5,000RPMs during any shift. The nose of the car stays high and it feels MUCH faster. It's still a little uncomfortable because shifts like this with the stock clutch would make it slip rediculously, but with the 2600 I doubt there will be any problems. I'm going to Darlington, Rockingham, or both next weekend. I'll give you an update next Monday if your interested.

yes keep us upto date with your car. The head gasket is being put on right now. We went ahead & turned the car loose that night. As soon as I hit third gear I thought (man I am going to be in fourth before the 1/8 mile mark its going to fly) & then - well it shut down & I coasted past the 1/8 & had to restart it to get to the end of the track. I couldnt believe it run a 12.60 on that pass. I didnt get the slip my son had to be taken to the doctor they called me over the speaker & I went & found him on the ground with the life saving crew. He is alright now though but I forgot to get the slip. Anyway it way good to fell the car rip like that, when we get the rest of the stuff we need like (FMIC - injectors - cams & our good head back on) it should be a real ride down the track. Good Luck , oyea is these track you are going to 1/4 mile.Originally posted by whatturbo

Thanks for the info on the tracks,I dont know if I can make it but if I get the chance I would drive it.Originally posted by whatturbo
Hi Anthony. Nice to hear from you. Get a clutch so you can come racing with me next season. It's awesome! It feels like there is finally some purpose for all the money I've spent on this car (besides highway revenue). Maybe I'll get some suspension in the cold months and try some autoX next year. I know you'll go along for that. keep in touch.
THEDUKE: What happened to your son? Is he diabetic or something? I'm glad to hear he's alright. I can imagine getting a track slip was the last thing on your mind. That car of yours is a monster. That's cool that your already putting it back together. The tracks that I'm going to try to hit before they close are 1/4 mile (Rockingham, NC & Darlington, SC). They are both about a 3 hour drive from my house, but I'm sure I can make it at least once before they close. It's a much farther drive for you, but if you want to go let me know. Rockingham has test 'n' tune on Friday evenings, and Darlington has it on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons. I think the one I'm going to try to hit this weekend is Darlington Sunday afternoon (from noon - 5pm). I'm not sure though because I'm off this Friday too, so I might try to go to Rockingham then. I'll post my new results here...I guess this is close to the original topic.

Those are really great times Shawn! You busted the 12 sec barrier, that has to feel good. I envy you, and your traction. Your traps look good as well. How much boost were you running on race gas, and what octane level was the race gas?Originally posted by whatturbo
Sorry for the delay guys. I had strep throat last weekend so I didn't go, but I went to Rockingham last night. I got a 13.18 @ 102 on pump and a 12.85 @ 106 on race gas. I have excuses for how both times could be better, but I am happy with what they are. I probably won't go again until next spring when I have some new parts. My 60' times on race gas were consistently in the 1.7xx range, so that made me happy. I get a little better at driving each time I go which makes sense.

Oh, yeah...it was Sunoco 116.116 you gotta luv it . I wander if there is any gas better than the 116. If there is I would like to try it.Originally posted by whatturbo
I was running the same 20psi on race gas that I was on pump. I didn't have much time to tune on the race gas, because right after I spent $16 on 3 gallons of that stuff they announced that they were going to close early. So I leaned it about 18% and drove. I wasn't getting even a hint of knock, so I added 2 degrees of timing. Everytime I was at the line on race gas they said it was the last run of the night. My windows were up so I pretended not to hear and got right back in line after the run. That didn't leave much time to view the logs and make changes to go faster. I still wasn't getting any knock, so I could have kept leaning it, adding timing, and I didn't even turn the boost up. That's why I said I have excuses for how the times could have been better. The car is capable of a 12.6xx the way it is right now, but I am very happy with the 12.85. I'm not complaining at all, I'll just prove it next time I go to the track.Oh, yeah...it was Sunoco 116.
