let me say thanks to Leon, Phil and the other guys out there that are running stupid fast times on the 14b. I would have ditched my turbo long ago if these guys werent squeezing incredible times out of theirs.

The day at the track started horribly. The place was packed and the weather was alot warmer than expected. After getting to the track, I realized that my trans was low on fluid and shifting gears wasnt quite so smooth. First run of the day, I blow the launch and miss 2nd... end up with a 12.9@112. I was disappointed with the e.t but happy with the trap. Next run, i blow 3rd and 4th and get a 12.9@103. At this point, I knew the car had a low 12 in it. After that, I babied the trans during all shifts and at the end of the day, I bested a 12.31@113!! The car still has a little more in it, I noticed it was breaking up slightly on the top end, im going to swap wires and maybe try bringing the gap down (currently .028). Anyone got a suggestion on gap size?

Anyway, I wanted to give credit to those other fast 14b guys again, It took me ALOT of time and hard work to get to this point and im still not nearly as fast! LOL.

greathuskie: i just put up a page with all my mods (atleast all the ones i remembered). http://www.geocities.com/supratt_98/index.htm

Leon: Thanks alot. I know the traps there for a solid 12.0, but I cant launch the car for the life of me. The biggest problem is lack of tread on my yoko avs es 100s. I was able to best a 1.80 launching at just over 4k. I tried at 5k but spun all through first gear. Tire pressure was at 27psi in all 4.

What gap size do you run in your car?

try running your tire pressure down to 20 psi. i usually run 18 psi front, 16 psi rear. run a few more psi in the front. this should give you a bit more traction.

i gap the same. nice times on the 14B. i currently have chosen a set up trien to hit low 13's with a smic and 14b. Later

Good job! Glad we can inspire you.........What was your exact trap speed? Leon, is your best still 113.8? Mine now sits at 113.3.

Anyway, keep up the work........and maybe you and I can join Leon in the 11's!!!!!!!!!!!!

My second time at the track with my car, my 14b turbo pushed out a 13.5 @101mph. This was with a horrible 1.94 60' i'm looking to hit high 12's with just weight mods, act2100, exhaust, mbc, and some race gas.
I have a fuel pump on the way, so hopefull i can get my knock down to a respectable level as some other tuners have done. Thanks guys, this turbo is here to stay for a while. :dsm:

Sorry for the late reply, but im not getting email notification for some reason???

turbobrian: I thought about dropping the pressure even more, but I the week prior, my buddy did that just that and blew his diff on the first run! So i was a bit reluctant to drop my tire pressure.

ericismyname: thanks! do you have any problems with that gap? Im thinking of bringing it down a hair.

Phil1320: Thanks alot! My exact trap was 113.20, so im still the slowest in terms of trap and e.t. I hope you join Leon in the 11s real soon, cause Im in line after you. ;)

GRNDSM: I agree with you, you might be able to hit mid 11's on the 14b on the perfect day and perfect run. As for me, Im having a hell of a time just hitting 12.0. I was tuned ok, definately not optimal as I tried to tune it at the track. Also I had an ok launch and slow shift into second so theres room for improvement. I put up a video of the 12.3 run on my site, it was taken from a digital camera so the quality isnt the best. If you or Phil drive, im sure itll make an 11 sec pass.

Gooberlog: I found out, race gas is key. I had a hell of a time tuning out knock last year on pump gas and was only able to get a 12.9... granted I had less mods from my current setup.

So Leon, Phil, or anyone else... you guys are running on stock ignition, any advice to prevent some of the breakup at the top of the rpm band? Im going to try bringing the gap down to .026 and maybe ditch the magnacores and put on a set of new stock wires.

Thanks again fellas,

I am now running BR CIP ignition, but I am not sure that it is needed for a 14b… I have ran 125mph on totally stock ignition before and I know other who have ran 128. So you are fine there.

You definitely should check your plug wires. All of our wires (magnacores included) have been known to go bad.

You can also misfire from running too rich or too lean :).

125 on the stock ignition, i guess my ignitions plenty good then. i have had the same magnacores on the car for over a year now, i guess its probably time to swap them out. I was so worried about blowing shifts, I didnt even pay attention to my egts, but im willing to bet I was on the rich side of things.

as for the low gas, i made sure i filled up enough to have 1/4 tank ;)

this is awesome stuff, really :)

Eric, I am on a similar mission.

I am adding some more obstacles tho :)

over 3000lbs, basic all seasons, stock clutch and driveline(original in my case, with over 230,000km) stock engine internals(including cams and gears), catalytic converter(working) and PUMP GAS!! Oh and 1g maf and no porting of manifolds or turbo parts.

Just my own personal demon, but I want to do it.

I'm shooting for 13.3, and I figure I can do it. I ran a 13.6 with bad knock(tuning run)half a tank of gas, and a 2.0 60'. I have cut 1.8 60' previously, so its there.

We've all got our little hangups, and this appears to be mine :)

anyone wanna join?? :p

I'm on a mission to hit mid to low 12's on my modded 14b with weight reductions, 2.5" turbo back, act2100, mbc, k&n, GM 3"maf translator, walbro255, 550's, supra SMIC, and race gas. I'm not looking to break any records, but when i bought my car my over all goals were mid 12's. But now i'm trying to do that on a 14b. I think now, its all about that 60'. Lets get it on! :thumb:

Bohrn,
When i ran 13.7, my first time at the track, i had 25counts of knock and my timing was pulled back to 12degrees. Next time i went to the track i ran 100unleaded sunoco gas, my 60' was more than a tenth slower and i still improved my e/t by 2 tenths. I think the gas helped my knock.

yea, it sure would. I can only get 94 Oct here, still better than 91 horsepiss, but not 100 :(

I won't use race gas tho, thats one of my own rules.

Yeah i usualy run 94 octane all the time on the street, and i want to use some 110 or C16 when the set up is ready. My only rule is 14b turbo. If i can hit 12.5 w/ all suporting mods and race gas, then i'll try to max out the 14b, but once the e/t's stop improving, that's when i'll start shoping for a new turbo/engine/&trans.
Travis

I run 93 on the street and the cars a completely different animal on 110. Good luck with the 14b guys.
