**Warning, a bit long..but if u have time, plz help a fellow DSMer find out whats going on with his car****

Mods in profile.

First off, previous DSM owner ran the car and got a 15.1 with a slipping clutch stock. Not even a boost controller. Well im hella annoyed because of what i ran...my times aren't matching up with mods. it was my first time at the track and i believe i did alright. heres my times

1st run (bogged it)
1.react 1.282
2.60 ft 2.620
3.1/8 11.169
4.1/8mph 64.65
5.1/4 17.1
6.mph 79.78

i wasn't that disspointed.

2nd run (slipped it, didn't launch hard)
1. 1.160
2. 2.375
3. 10.941
4. 65.20
5. 16.927
6. 81.68

improvement :D but still not corresponding times to mods. ughh

3rd Run (Launch at 5K..didn't do it that hard b4 coz i was afraid of breaking something...LOL)

1. .832
2. 2.328
3. 10.585
4. 66.69
5. 16.482
6. 83.78

at least im getting faster...but i was still annoyed and let one of the seasoned DSMers drive my car to see if they could squeeze better times outta her..the dude ran 12s in his laser.

His times

1. .615
2. 2.058
3. 10.229
4. 66.09
5. 16.163
6. 83.80

ahhhhh..i just about had it with my car. my friend told me that we'll check the rear BS to make sure they're lined up correctly because last time we did the T-belt he was pretty sure they were right, but he feels the car make weird vibrations after 3K rpm. Also he says that the off the line response is awesome, hell i smoked everyone i raced off the line but after 2nd gear, as he put it, "it felt like the car just stopped pulling as hard" . Car builds and holds boost good, but sometimes feels like its not doing much. Now i always thought my car wasn't running up to par when my friend with a stock 91 tsi awd could keep up with mine. So we're going to check if the balance shafts are all good, and also if the ignition timing is on.

Now my question is that my car makes a weird howling noise when accelerating every now and then and smells like oil everytime i get on it. Could that be my turbo dying? i have a small16g and DP waiting to be installed but i wanted a baseline to see how much of a difference the mods made first. If my turbo is dead i guess ill have to upgrade early.

Things I hope will help get me back to at least stock times(do you think it will?)

1. clean I/C (haven't done this yet..it must be filthy..could i lose power from there?)
2. change fuel filter (could this be a big hinderence?)
3. check rear BS
4. check Ignition timing

those are the only things i can think of.

Thanks for reading this LONG A55 POST. all suggestions would be appreciated. Please throw out anything you think it could be or might help

my freind has a 94 TSi with 84k miles on it. my dad has a 90 GST with 13Xk miles. the TSi pulls a whole lot harder (because of less miles im geussing). so with that in mind how many miles does your car have? also how hard was it driven? if you got a car with 100k miles that was driven easy it might drive better than a car with 80k miles that was driven hard. if your turbo is dead or dying you should get a new one. you could always take it off and cleand it, look for shaft play and all that jazz.
