I went to fontana this weekend w/ the new setup on the car.

14b
3" exhaust
Test pipe
whinebro 190

So my first run I leave the boost at stock and run 15.1 @95mph
The temp was like probably 90 degrees at that time, so I wasn't to concerned.

Later on after it cools off, I turn the boost up to about 18psi and throw in pure 100 octane. I run a 15.3 @ 94mph running rich as hell and backfiring between shifts. It didn't start to run clean and hard til 3rd.

So, thinking I'm running way to rich, I decide to run my nitrous setup and lean out the fuel jet to compensate. As soon as I hit the button in 2nd, all hell breaks loose and I get nothing but loud pops and bangs, I instantly shut it down thinking I killed my motor and coast to a blazing fast 18.7 @ 55mph.

Now I'm confused, so I try playing w/ the boost and it gets slower, and misses more. At first I thought it was running slow because it was untuned (no s-afc or anything) and it was running too rich w/ the whinebro. But then I decided to gap my plugs way below spec to see if the coil wasn't working right. I also turned down the boost back down to as low as it would go. I run it again and it pulls much harder and does a 14.7 @ 96mph.

I'm dissapointed w/ these results as I was expecting at least mid-low 14's on the 14b setup, and 13's w/ the nitrous. When I first got the car stock, I ran a 14.9 @97 mph w/ the t-25 w/ a horrible 2.6 60'. So I'll replace my coil and try again next week. Damn dsm's, whenever you think its all ready to go, bamm...something else goes out!

Yeah, tell me about bad track days. They all seem to come my way as well. Look at my profile, check out the mods and then tell me how bad I am at driving to run a best E.T. of 14.440  .

Just keep practicing on the track.

Crazy fellow DSM'r saying: "Drive it like ya stole it son!"

i hate stupid people.

this is all on stock injectors?

if you can't afford a logger or an AFC, i doubt you can afford a motor.

don't be stupid.

Loggers and afcs are great, but at this point in my mods I haven't needed it. Did you read my mods..., I'm only running a 14b........ but a logger and afc are almost on the top of the "things to get next list." Next time keep the flames down:mad:

no flaming.

it makes me crazy to see people do stupid things to their cars. like put nitrous on a bad running car without a logger.

i checked your mods list. if you are running stock injectors, unless you have a major boost leak, you shouldn't be running rich.

and what makes you think your "coil" is the problem? how old are your plugs and plug wires? what was the gap? what did you gap them to?

Ben

I figured it was the coil because A.) I shouldn't be running rich w/ the mods I have at 17-18psi
B.) It was only under boost it would mis and backfire

C.) I checked the primary and secondary resistance on the coil, and they were out of spec a tiny bit

D.) My spark plug wires, power transitor are almost brand new, and I change my plugs like twice a year....(they were only about a month old)

E.) When I turned down the boost it ran much stronger even though I wasn't boosting any unreasonable amount on race gas.

F.) This was the final conclusion........when I closed the spark gap from .028 all the way down to .021 the car ran 100X better. Bad coil

So to update, I bought a new coil put it on, and wallah.......back to normal. Running 17psi w/ a spark gap of about .029-.030 w/ no problem.

As for me running the nitrous on a motor w/ a potential problem.....that was a bonedhead move. I've been using nitrous for awhile, I even have it on my street bike so I am no noob when it comes to tuning nitrous setups. But in my defense, I listened to a fellow dsmer at the track who led me to believe I was running rich because of the 190, and rising fpr rate w/ no fuel control yada-yada-yada........So I thought that I would tune my nitrous system a little on the lean side to compensate for the extra fuel. I don't know why I even listen to some people though because I suspected from the get-go that the coil may have been going bad when it first happened. Oh well, live and learn and luckily nothing got harmed except my ego and times.

good to see you fixed the problem and went through the process of troubleshooting.

substitute silly for stupid in my first post.
