:dsm: I know this has been asked before but i cannot find the thread . iam looking for the best drag tire and rim size etc. and i am also looking for the best street drag tire forevery day driving as well in a 17" please help thank you

Well if you're AWD(it doesn't say what you have) then I would not buy drag radials if you want to run them on the street. I can get just as good 60' times with my 18x8 Kumho 712s as I do now with my 17x7.5 Victoracers. I only bought the R compounds because I wanted to run lighter wheels and save the weight so they're for track only. I know some people drive R compounds on the street but I personally wouldn't unless you know you've got really nice, swept, roads!

nitto 555r is a waste of money.ive seen the statistics againt normal street tires.get some full drags.can never go wrong there.

i will keep smokin there buddy, theres not much of a difference between the nitto 555R and normal street tires.go test them for yourself and find out.when i give tech advice or information i dont talk out of my ass, understand.id hate to see the guy blow his money on the 555's when drag slicks will give better results.

Ok man, send me some of your schwag. Yours sounds way more "kill" than mine. ;)

Explain your findings, and I will explain mine. I guarantee mine will be better. ;)

I've ran tons of tires over the last few years, I know there is a HUGE different between drag radials and regular street tires.

I was doing 2.0 60' times in a mildly powered (308whp) FWD, wheelhopping all over and having to pedal, with nitto drags and NO burnout (due to wheelhop). I can guarantee if I had known about the broke motor mounts, and some of the other wheelhop-inducing equations, I could have broke 1.9's with EASE. Provided a good burnout could have been had.

Comparing those times to my 2.2's on my Kumho 712's should tell the difference.

Also went from hooking up 100% in 2nd gear (and hell, most of first if I didn't launch the car) with the nitto's, to getting smoke to come in through the vents in 2nd with the kumho's.

While Nitto's might not be the BEST drag radial, they offer some sizes for FWD's that other companies do not. I would recommend them 110% for a street car, but they are not the best for the track.

Now maybe your AWD doesn't have the power to TEST these tires to the limit, but I do know MANY AWD guys who run the NITTO's. They went from getting sideways in 3rd gear, to nearly snapping their neck off in 2nd. These are 130mph+ cars.

Now if you want to compar drag slicks to drag radials, you need to keep smoking. That's like comparing Kumho V700's to the Roadmaster Whitewalls on my grandma's Buick Park Avenue.

we know theres a difference between radials and slicks, thats a given.my car doesnt yet have the power that those others do but in a month it will.maybe ill go test your theories and see.me personally i have not tested the 555R but i do know people who have and they say theres not much of a difference.im sure it helped somewhat but not much.then they saw a bigger difference with slicks.and thats a given also.i dont know times like you have until i do it for myself.my brother has been dragging since 97 so ill ask him his opinion.im sure you are right in many aspects though.my point is i dont think theres much of a difference between the 555R and a street tire.in fact i bet the potenza T01S will lay a better time than a 555R due to its stickiness.and yes the sizes available are pretty cool.

Victoracers are an auto-x/road race tire, not a drag tire. The sidewalls are way too stiff to be a good drag tire...

Well you gotta think, what were they doing with the tire? Did they have the power to really use it? Were they doing street or track? What tire pressures? Heat cycled?

Of F|_|cking course they'd see bigger difference with slicks, but who is going to drive around the street with slicks?

You are just "thinking" there isn't a big difference. When you have actualy driven a car before and after these tires, then you have room to talk, until then, STFU. If you think a road race tire is going to hook in a straight line, from a stop, better than drag radial, you are being fooled.

well that was a tad mean but what im trying to do here is compare what i think and know to what you think and know.i plan to test these tires, you never know,i may like them, who knows.but i am gonna get the opinions of people who have used them and find out.my first test will be the nitto neo.i want to see how well that side wall really adjusts itself to the flexing of the tire.
