I took my 91 GSX in stock form to the track last Friday. (My first time ever, and stock being as the condition I bought it in last year) Full weight and a full tank a gas (filled up earlier in the week, didn't know I was going to run it later) my car did a best of 16.09 @ 82.3mph w/ a 2.1 60 ft. Somewhat disappointed because my car feels so much stronger that what it ran, but I did launch her at 5k rpms. I still need to change the plugs and wires, compression and leak test, change fuel filter and clean my intercooler. And most important do a t-belt change, and get a logger hooked up. With those changes and a few more runs I'm hoping to have her back to stock times. I think I have the slowest GSX ever right now. :thumb:

Well, if you think about it... if I remember correctly, when new, the 1G AWD were suppossed to run 15.4 stock... according to my ricer math, add in really hot Texas weather, plus the silly humidity, new driver, 12 or so years of wear and tear and no tuning... it could easily add up to .6 of a second off from the original stock 1/4 time??

Getting the car back up to speed, i.e. all the maintenance items taken care of, then it should be good for modding/quicker 1/4 times ;)

Just work on your launches. As long as your clutch is holding up, you should be able to get a 1.8 60' which will get you back down to a mid 15s

I have a similar sittuation.

I bought the car 4weeks ago, it has a mbc @ 15. K&N. The plugs are new, the compression is fine. The best i could run was 15.3(once) the rest were 15.6-8( ). I tried 8 different types of launches (8 runs). Talked to a very fast Dsm driver he told me drop it at 5500, i did my 60' was a 2.2:cry: . In my basicaly stock mx6 (v6 fwd 165hp) i could pull 2.1's all night. It just seems like the car has nothing, im only trapping at 88mph. it holds boost for like a second then drops to 10psi after 5k rpms.

God im such a dsm noob:mad:

haha don't feel bad...my first time to the track in 4 runs, my GSX couldn't break 17's. I have k&n, uicp, hks ssq, 2.5" exh., boost at 15psi....now the bad part....bad synchro in 2nd. The 2nd time i went to the track, i just said fuk it and ripped thrugh it and had a best of 15.3...quite disappointing to me. and I had higher top speeds of people that ran half a second faster than me...thats how bad the tranny hurt my time.

LOL i have seen a 16 second gsx... LOL
so i went to the strip for the first time, and my third and worst run was 16.0001 talk about on the money.

I know ur situation! I have a 91 all wheel drive turbo talon....doesn't really have the big mods but i do have h&r springs, kyb adjustables, fuel pump, nology ignition, k&n filter, boost controller and a few other little goodies, problem with my car is I DONT HAVE a second gear, so at the track I went from 1st to 3rd everytime! I was smashing off the launch, and got a 1.8 60 ft, but that doesn't matter, cuz after I couldn't go into 2nd, i was caught up to.

I ran 16 psi and ran a 15.14 @ 96.6mph

Without a 2nd gear I don't think that's ALL too shabby. I must get that fixed...

well seems like alot of you people cant drive. you cant just drop the clutch. all the 2.2 and 2.1 60ft guys. either you guys def cant drive or you have shitty clutches which arent holdin it. flex y would u run ur car with no 3rd gear? what did u expect? at least u had a awesome launch, trappin 88 mph?????? damn, thats horrible. something is worng. anyone with a 12 year old car. should do plugs, wires, oil change, coolant change, fuel filter, new air filter. and then run. i;ve hear od 1g awd's with just air filters runnin mid to high 14's. you guys better get clutches and/or learn how to drive !!!!!!!!!!!

ps: first time ever at the track, first run ever-12.9, 1.7 60ft, all 4 of my runs had 1.7 60 ft's with best et of 12.7. now i had had the car for 1 year, and i was only 18 years old. that was 6 months ago. i hope to pull 1.6 60 ft's with my new act 2600

Who said anything about dropping the clutch, ####nuts. If you go back and read my original post you will see what some of the plans are. And if you are saying that you ran a 12.9 stock then I"m calling B.S. Or let me explain a little further, Stock meaning the way the car is from factory or OEM replacements, NO AFTERMARKET!

Edit - just looked at your mod list. Stock at 12.9 (your "first time") and then with all the mods you've done, you only managed 12.78.

well first time at the track means little, but if he claimed it was stock, then ... thats bs, i mean you could build a car with 600 hp and then go for the "first time" and still do well, but 12.9 stock, nonsense

dotn feel bad, iv never seen a 16 second 1g awd but i saw this guy at the track with a 2g fwd turbo with slicks, a stand alone fuel management system, exhaust, and an fmic(thats all i could see cause he didnt open his hood) run a 14.8, he burned out to heat up the slicks and all, and still ran that crappy time with all that work, it was funny cause my friend had just bought a nearly stock 2g tsi fwd and ran a 14.5 on street tires with a slipping clutch that made his launch slow as hell

Theres a guy here in town 91 Talon Tsi Awd running 16.5's at the track, its pitiful, I have him listed in my cell phone as Slow Talon Matt, Ive been trying to get him to bring his car to my house for weeks now but hes too lazy to let me work on it. Just give it some TLC and things will get faster. Keep your head up.

i have one.... .i just made a post about it....god i hate being ragged on. haha. "all wheel for nothing", "turbo what??" ...punks. After i throw on the 16g and o2 elim DP and fuel pump, we'll see whose laughing.

I managed a 14.06 @ 97mph the first time I took my DSM out. It has a little over 160,000 miles a hacked MAS, MBC, and K&N. I am shooting for 11's after the winter and hopefully I'll be hitting 10's by the end of the season with some fine tuning. I bought this car specifically for racing purposes. We'll see what I can get her to do.
