Calgary,
I am going to the track next weekend for the first time. It's just an 1/8 mile track cheap one day pay $50 race all day small town thing. Not gonna be any really fast cars there. I was just wondering if all wheel drive has an advantage over these rear wheel drive in the 1/8? My buds are sayin that even if a certain car can beat me 1/4 mile i might still beat him 1/8 mile with a good launch. Is this true? My lauching is excellent on the street, but do i have an edge at the track? help...
tHaNk YoU!

It's the whole AWD weight and driveline drag that hold it back just a little on the top end. I personally don't think it's too huge of a deal.

I think if both cars were on regular street radials (not drag radials) then you will have an advantage. My 97 Z28 cut consistent mid 1.8 60' times with just drag radials. My friends cars have suspension mods and with DR's they turn mid 1.7's so it just depends on the way the RWD cars are setup. Also, another friends C4 Vette would cut mid 1.8 60's with just regular street radials FWIW.

yea you will have an advantage in the 1/8th. its not till the top end that the faster v8 cars catch us. Even cars a second faster will usually be behind at the 1/8th mark. At least in my speed range and area.

And on real street tires, not some slick with grooves cut in it

That is the most hillariously obscene thing I've heard in a long time. Thanks for the laugh.... :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

oh, I see these supposed "street" cars all the time. 850hp Supra with "Street" " tires. You ask them how they can compete in the street category and they get all pissy.

The other nite the street legals were all sold out:)mad:   ) so I wandered over to see how the other DSM's were doing, and I saw about 10 cars that thre is NO WAY that they drive those on the street. Gimme a break, there was a tubeframe racecar with a 'chute on the back that ran a 8.95 1/4!! "yea officer I was just running down to the store to pick up some milk and bread, then I gotta pick up the twins at the soccer field"

Kick those guys out and 10 more honest to god street cars could come in. I had people from work there to see me run, and so did lots of others. Oh well...

yea, they call that "test and tune" here and its like $65 Canadian, so its close to $50 us. I think thats a rip, myself, but then I don't run a dragstrip, I'm just a guy with a turbo :)

if the rwd is on REAL street tires (not DOT approved DR's), then you hold the advantage in the 1/8th due to your 60 foot.

If the RWD has a very good driver, and/or a properly setup rear suspension, I wouldn't place many bets on the awd.

Mine is 10 bucks and it's from 5 in the evening until 9:30 or 10:00 at night every Tuesday. Once or twice a month they have "midnight madness," same price but from 5 to midnight and there's usually a car show and some other stuff goin' on.

well..has an awd dsm cut a 1.1 60 foot yet like Buschurs rwd dsm has?

thats about as apples to apples as you could keep it in this debate.

apples to apples my a$$ :)

Buschers car is a total race car. Thats it. Our cars are street cars. In fact I think I even mentioned that I was only talking about real street cars with real street tires. Slap a set of 205/55/VR16's on the back of DB's car and I will be able to contend with him on the start :)
