racing with 17" rims and wheel hopping!

Does anyone regularly drag race with aftermarket 17" rims on 1Gs?

Well i was curious about running my daily used 17" ADR rims w/ 225/45 pirelli tires at the track. I have done a best 1.91 60' with these rims last year.

My 1st time launching the car with the new motor and clutch i was getting wheel hop! I was told that it could someday cause to break my tranny. not good. Also my driver side motor mount is shot. Should i just slap some 16s on, or its just normal/ok?

yea i was. i know another kid who has a '98 gsx that runs low 12s that wheel hops and he thinks it his stock 17" rims. for sure i know that the driver side motor mount is shot, but i dont think it causes wheel hop since its on the side, or IS IT?

It could be.. Your car is awd. so all the wheels turn. Did you ever drag it with the stock 16's? if so did it do the same?

Best bet replace the mount. And try again Its going to need to be replaced soon anyway.

i have drag it with the 16s on but didt not wheel hop as much with the 17s and new clutch combo. maybe i should try dragging with 16s and see how it goes.. would i be fine with Energy Suspension motor mounts? i know polyurethans are stiff as hell

Stiffer mounts are great with wheelhop, I know that with FWD's it should totally eliminate the hop. So it should help with AWD's too.

yea tru. also i went to the track my engine feels like its "banging" looks like some loose mount or just a bad mount.. and the nose of my car would dive down at the launch. Which mounts is bad that is necessary to replace?

still deciding either an Energy Suspension or Polyurethane(shaky stiff!) would do the trick.. or just a stock one
