GizmoVR4 and I took the trip to Etown on sunday to make an attempt at the Galant VR4 record and were lucky enough to succeed in busting down that door.

  • 2.3L, GT37R, icewater intercooler, HKS 280's, Gizmo intake, 1g head.
  • We run Powermist RE85L fuel. FIC 2150's & Aeromotive A1000
  • No nitrous at all.
  • Automatic awd, re-stalled converter, shep xcase, dss driveshaft, dss rear axles
  • M&H 26x8.5x15 slicks on ARE 15x6" wheels.
  • shifted with a adjustable RPM box & ForcedFour mitsu shift box.
  • Total weight: 3235 on Etown's scale with driver. Car is about 3000 even.

Super high compression? Lovin the wheels =P

It's a basic "off the shelf" motor. I think wiseco 8.5:1 normal non HD pistons, and the cheap manly rods. Stock G4CS 6bolt crank.

The wheels are OLD SCHOOL, I think Nelson has had them since like 1992 when be bought a new gvr4 off the dealer lot. hahaha They were 16.2lb on my scale, very heavy for a 15x6" wheel. We tried to put my 4lug Volk wheels on before hitting the track, but the 7" width and additional offset made his bigger slicks hit the trailing arm in the rear, so we couldn't use them.

Awesome times! Car is a beast for sure. How you getting up on the converter without nitrous?

The combination of parts just worked out perfect. The converter is loose enough that the engine gets up on boost without any nitrous within 4-5 seconds of stalling. Leaving at 10psi makes high 1.4's, leaving at 12psi makes 1.3's, and leaving at 14psi is enough power to break parts every run. We don't need nitrous, as the engine makes enough power to demolish the driveline.

I think it's a combo of the 2.3L stroker motor, ball bearing midsize turbo, the ultra short air/water intercooler piping that gets the boost up early. The car will be at 40psi within .4 seconds after dropping the brake and stay absolutely flat at 40psi until the traps.

Very nice guys! Congrats on the GVR4 record. Any idea what the power is at? Based off the time and weight I'd guess around high 600 to low 700 maybe.

I ran it through the HP calculator at boost controller.com for 3235lb and 9.36 @ 146.10 it gave like 748hp and 750hp respectively. Im truly scared of the dynamometer, so I don't think we'll ever really know what it puts to the wheels.

Yeah i was noticing on the video that it would only take 4-5 sec max to spool up which its awesome. You think that can achieved with a really short route FMIC and a 2.3 with higher compression piston? Also if you don't mind, what's the stall on the converter?

Thanks

Those wheels are almost as impressive as the 9.3 ET. 6.0 1/8 is movin. Congrats!

The converter re-stall was done by a local auto trans shop that Nelson knows from his day job in long island, I don't even think it's a performance shop. hahah I think we got extremely lucky with the converter.

As for it's "stall rating". We see 4800-5000rpm on the starting line and it flashes to about 6200rpm immediately off the starting line as the boost comes up to 40psi. Stall speed is directly affected by power output, so the more boost we run, the looser the converter acts immediately off the line.
