Someone was talking shiat to me the other day about how his 96 mustang gt is a real car and that four bangers are good for nothing. He claims a quarter mile of mid 13's. I wan't to race him and put him in his place but I am not sure if I can take him yet. My mods are listed in my signature. Do you think I can take him now? If not, what should I modify before I race him?
 
with your mods you should be able to run a low 13 if not high 12 if you can drive :) From the launch you should rip that Mustang out of the hole and have no problems from there on out.
 
Crazy idea. Being that you know how fast that he is, and you don't know how fast you are- why don't you run your car without anyone knowing how fast it is before you start talking smack. When you get to the track you write "N/T" on the window and they won't put up your time. At least that's what we do in around here.
 
get a fuel pump. turn up the boost to 18.

I would let you, but I don't think he would want to race you. I am kind of leading him on by making him think the talon is as slow as my all show and little go integra. ;)

Was planning on racing him this weekend, but I blew a connecting rod friday night. I am pretty sure that is what it is because it was a loud clanking noise coming from the drivers side of the motor. It will take a little while before I race him because I am planning on geting a JDM motor tranny swap to put in it, or buying a lowmileage motor and tranny to get rid of the 2nd gear syncro problem also. I will put up a new post later saying if I beat him or lost when I get the car running again.

I am not actually very sure what the problem is. It was a little after midnight on friday. It was pretty dark and that is what a cop said it was. He did say he noticed a pulley wasn't moving. I thought it over, and it seemed his diagnosis made sense. It didn't seem to be driving bad while bringing it to the side of the road, it was pretty loud though. Do you know how I can check to figure out if it is the problem? I PMed you about it also. I hope that is the problem.

I will ask him at school tomorrow if he will race you, but I am not sure if he will.
 
If the motor did not sieze i do not think it is a rod. they do not bend or break easily.

check and see if your belts are loose, and see if the pully at the end of the crankshaft on the timing belt side moves or wiggles at all.

how long was the motor running after the noise began? if the car was running for longer than a minute, it wouldnt be a rod. there is a guy named Rick Shindley not too far from you. he is just about the best DSM mechanic in the state. maybe give him a call.

The PM was pretty much the same thing. I just checked, and it looks like we might have lost a belt. I am going to try and check it a little more now. I saw that when it happened, but we had abs disconnected a week earlier so I thought it was suopposed to be like that. we will try to fix it. I will probably be online for at least an hour. I will tell you if we fix/figure it out for sure.
 
It defenitly looks like 1 of the belts fell off. Are both of the timing belts on the drivers side of the motor, or is one of them the serpentine belt? The one closest to the drivers side fell off, do you know which one it is? Hopefully it is the only problem. Would that explain the load clanking noise?
 
It is the belt that runs the alternator, water pump and crankshaft. Hopefully I can hold the local dealer liable because they just did work on the belts. Would the pully cause the belt to fall off?
 
BTW, the belt didn't break, it is still hanging in there. We snagged it with a coat hanger and the only thing preventing it from coming out is one of the pulleys. :D My brother just checked the crank pully and he thought it seemed like it would fall off. Would it cause any engine damage?
 
I had the same thing happen to my crank pulley a few months back. The crappy OEM crank pulleys will separate over time. Not that big of a deal, I wouldn't worry too much, but don't go driving it around like that. ;)

Just pull it, replace it (find a nice underdrive pulley to replace it with, and get a performance gain), and forget about it. :)
