halifax,
Ok, so i know my results are not as good as alot of the members on here but i thought i would share my numbers. my best time for the day was 13.967@105mph. my 60 foot was horrible at 2.6xx
the gt35r was runnin about 20psi on 91 octane.. i know once i get my 3" exhaust and meth i should be into the 12's but it really was disappointing not hitting a bit lower in the 13's.

one thing i noticed is that i did not get any boost at all while staging, and 1st gear revved out pretty fast so i was hardly in boost till 2nd.

So i got a bit greedy and went to the other racers and bought some 112 octane fuel and poored about 9 litres of that in. the car started working like shit, it was running piggggg rich and couldnt lean it out for the life of me. so i didnt get to make any passes with it since i couldnt dial it in. anyway any comments on how to help my times would be great. Please note that this was my first time ever racing an awd and 1st time at a track so be nice LOL
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-BsAorwILM this run i believe was 14.0xx

Not too bad for your first time. If you can get the launch down and lower your 60ft times, you'll improve your times quite a bit. Even with the stock exhaust.

I loved how you owned that camaros ass :hellyeah:

you should of done bolts ons before you did that big turbo and a tune with a 35r you should see low 11's but having the right mods to push it. i'v seen 11's with the right mods and stock block on just a evo3 16g you really need to open up exhaust for that big ass turbo.

that turbo you have is a bit overkill at the moment...

i dont even see you having a wideband ...

so good luck and happy tuning

I couldn't agree more with everyone on needing to tune, but that is first going to require supporting pieces first such as a piggy back, stand alone, eprom setup and a wb o2.

BTW, thank you for using a track and not a highway

Can't complain about anything your first time out man! Now you got the idea of what's going on (staging, etc.) you can focus more on your launch. Everyone is nervous there first time at the track. Your car will get faster. Just keep at it!

well the engine is pretty much built for the 35r. its got wiseco forged pistons, eagle rods, balanced crank, arp headstuds, cometic hg, hks stage 2 regrinds, obx tubular header, tial 38mm wastegate, 3" downpipe with 2.5" exhaust, act2600 clutch, *DYNOJET WIDEBAND* (thought i'd throw that in there since people were sayin i needed one) precision 880cc injectors, 255walbro , afpr
3"gm maf with maft. You guys are definately right tho i need a tune, a bigger exhaust and something to tune with.
and about me revving it out more , i kept hitting some sort of *boost cut* when i was in first. I think the 60 foot times should get lower once i get dsm link so i can build boost right away. Plus learn how to launch, this is my first awd car and before yesterday i never even tried launching it LOL

ahh ok sorry i should update that... and yes i had a blast! i know the times werent good at all for what the car is built to do but i am still learning and looking forward to improving every single time out, thats how i look at it, im getting the car on the dyno next week so next time at the track should be a big difference.

If I had a GT35R and a built engine, I'd be disappointed to run anything slower than an 11.8.

You have a turbo capable of generating nearly 70 lb/min of airflow....enough to run into the 10's. Exactly how much airflow are you logging to run a 13.9 @ 105?

A good launch on stock suspension will net you around a 1.7 60ft, so you'll gain a second on your ET right there, but that still puts you at a 12.9.

man believe me, i know its not a good time, as i keep saying. and like i also stated it was my first time at the track, with no tune running 20psi on 91 pump. So im obviously looking to improve i just thought i'd share the results even though they arent anything to brag about, I just wanted to get some good advice on how to improve. The exhaust is getting upgraded to 3" and im getting meth within 2 weeks as well. After that dsmlink will be next. I'm only hoping to run low 12's maybe high 11's with this car. Yes the turbo is overkill for that goal but i bought the turbo brand new for 500 bucks so im working with what i have.

This is the biggest mistake made when selecting a turbocharger. You get a good deal, so why not go bigger? Here's why.

You're running a GT35R at 20psi, a turbo which would be happier around 30psi. You're probably seeing full boost around 4500rpms or later, and I'm willing to bet if you were able to log airflow you'd find that you're probably making around 35-38 lb/min, which is right in the realm of what an Evo III 16G could do while spooling 1000 rpms sooner.

The setup you have right now has no trouble making 500whp, yet you're probably seeing closer to 300whp as it sits right now. If low 12's or high 11's is really all the faster you want to go, you probably should've taken the deal on the GT35R, sold it for nearly double what you paid for it, and used that money to buy a turbo and other parts that are better-suited to the time you wanted to run and the horsepower you wanted to make. The car will have much better manners on the street, be easier to tune, and require less attention to keep on the road.

yes i definately see what you mean and i definately appreciate the advice. I really should have sold it and went with a 20g or something in that line.
But if i end up getting dsmlink and meth I should be safe running in the 30psi range? because if the engine will be reliable at the power range I will push for more.

We ended up unbolting the exhaust behind the flex pipe to help spool a bit but i couldnt get the afr right after that. it kept going wayyy rich and kept pulling timing ( i think thats what it felt like) plus the 112 octane race gas we put in didnt help either. i couldnt lean it out at all.

running race gas with no tune or tuned right or mixing 91 with race gas can end up to blowing your motor even if its built or what not. You need the supporting mods in order for you to run like it should and you dont need meth to get into the 12's that turbo and supporting mods should get you into the 11s or maybe even 10s if its done right.

meth is not a power adder. it just helps with preventing knock and detonation so you can run higher boost. so it is not really a necessity at the moment for you with all the mods you have done. get the rest of the stuff you need, exhaust, aem/dsm link, and whatever else your wanting then go tune it. if youre having problems with knock and detonation still, then go ahead and get the meth. do not run your car anymore until you get a REAL tune with the new parts. you dont want to melt a piston from running lean or anything else. good luck:thumb:

I'm taking your advice and towing the car down to the shop. It's getting the 3" exhaust put on and then they are putting it on the dyno for a better tune! I can't wait. Hopefully within 2 weeks I can order the dsmlink.
Oh and as far as me having more money than brains, I work extremely hard to pay for the mods on my car, there really aren't any dsms out here so I don't get alot of help. I'm sure you went through a learning process. So honestly save your breath about my car being horrible because once i get my parts needed the car will be where it should be.
And for all those who are actually giving advice and telling me what parts I need I really do appreciate it because like I said there is not anyone out here who can tell me how to build it.

Well you say I dont know what im doing.. and maybe your right about me doing it myself.. but I believe I built the car right except for the exhaust and dsmlink. So I took care of the hard part first by building the engine to take the power. So how is that pathetic? All this means is I now have the potential to make the turbo work how it should right?
Like I said the exhaust is getting put on today, and link within 2 weeks, so I don't see why you should make such hostile comments on my build. Maybe your just mad because i've used quality parts for my engine build i dont know, but for you not to just offer advice like the senior guys on this site makes you look pathetic not me.

I would go with DSMlink V3 before touching any meth. Get it up and running good on dsmlink with a 91octane tune before getting too far ahead of yourself with meth etc etc.

Also, are you on a stock exhaust in the videos? Sounds like there is some pretty slow spool between shifts. I'd check for boost leaks.

We also carry Carry DSMlink if you are interested in ordering from us.

Ok thanks Brian, looks like I will be going with link before meth.
Oh and the exhaust is 2.5" with a magnaflow muffler. It's stock looking but has a bit of a rumble in the higher rpms.

Should have bought an hx40

? . . . :p

The ones that actually gave advice are pretty much dead on. First you need a better tune. You're better off with smaller injectors runnign the maft. But since you will be running link, keep your 880s and get a decent tune with that. MUCH better.

After that you REALLY need seat time. Search "preloading drivetrain", "no lift to shift", "studderbox". This will get you on the right path to learn how to control your car out of the hole.

You have a 2.6sec 60ft. From my experience, every tenth you shave off here gives you 2 tenths for the 1/4 mile ET. So in your case, most guys see 1.8-1.7 60fts with AWD and stock suspension with a properly setup studder and proper preload control (getting good with the ebrake and slipping the clutch). That's a difference of .8-.9 seconds just at the 60ft. That's 1.8 seconds you could gain a the end of the 1/4 mile just by better driving out of the hole. This alone would put you in the 12s. . .

I've only been around T/E/Ls for 8 years and that's what stood out to me as the most obvious :aha: . I suppose messing wth T/E/Ls and actually racing them are different.

. . .But there's no sense in even goign to the track without a decent tune. And Amen! to what Justin said; running 20psi with 2.5" exhaust with a flowmaster baffle muffler (not flowthrough), you have all the lag of a gt35r with the flow of an evo3 16g.

ok cool, so do you think since its going for a new exhaust today i should get him to replace the muffler all together? or can it be modified to flow better?

So can I get a stutterbox without using dsmlink? it would be nice to have it at the track next week after i get my tune/exhaust.
