First run of the year... upset to say the least

Last year I went to the dragstrip for the first time. Let me say it was a blast. My car did horrible though (I launched bad as well). I had a 2.4 60' and a 1/4 time of 16.4. That was with a bad bad boost leak though. So all throughout the winter, I have been spending all my money taking care of maintinence and not really doing any mods. The car has been running pretty good for a while, then i start to get a creak from the front end. The lower control arm ball joint was BAD.... So I ordered one from ebay last week. Got it on friday and put it on right before I went to the track. FLAWLESS... I go out for a test drive and notice it's not boosting right. I go and tighten all the intake/intercooler clamps and assume all it well. It still didn't boost fully (should be at 12-13), it only got up to like 8psi. I go to the track anyways, thinking it was getting better for some reason :ohdamn:. I get there only to find out they are doing 1/8th mile instead of 1/4. I decide to still give it a go. It sucked. My first launch was revving from 4.5k to 5.1k to try and build a little boost off the line. It was my best launch ever, nice and smooth, I may have even spun a little. But as soon as the rev's got higher, it looked like I was casually driving. :ohdamn:. I get back home looking for boost leaks... ah-ha!!! The bov nipple was broken (I already knew this). I had it rtv'd to a metal nipple which went inside the hose going to the intake (if you can understand that), and the rtv seal that worked fine before must have broken sometime in the process. I put a new thick glob of rtv on the nipple to hold it/seal it, let it sit over night and wala! Boosted all the way up to 13 when I tried it in the morning. I have a 1g bov and adapter on order now and should be getting it sometime this week. I'm planning on going back full force next friday to see what I can pull off... Hopefully I wont break anything!

Oh yea, I debated posting my 1/8th mile time but here it is anyways (pathetic)
1/8- 10.8
mph- 64
60'- 2.4

Asking what we think it is capable of is bench racing, and it would also be hard for us to say since 2 cars can have the same mods and have completly different numbers,ya know what i mean bro. None the less good luck at the track friday let us know how it goes.

13G turbo?!?!? WTF Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the stock T25 flow more?

Tom

ok I never did figure out 100% what turbo it was... I'm guessing it's a 13g, It says tdo4hl on the side, it was put on two owners ago. I'm assuming it was rebuilt because there is no shaft play to speak of. I could never find a match with the serial numbers either, so I just assumed it was a 13g. Although the previous owner said 14b.... who knows?

Its a 15G, and I ran my stock 91 GST for the first time tonight and hit a 10.075 @ 72.04 MPH in the 8th, and finished the 1/4 with a 15.456 @ 90.60MPH.

So your looking at a mid 15 second in the 1/4.

Also, your 60 foot is horrible for an AWD, mine was horrible and I'm FWD mine was a 2.499

No, it's a not a 15g. A lot of people say these are 15g turbos. The compressor cover would have to be bored out for it to fit the 15g wheel on this turbo. A 15g has a compressor inlet of 1.625 almost to the size of a 14b @ 1.695. The 13g has a inlet of 1.580 and the 13t has an inlet of 1.597. This means there should be a visual difference between the two.

My guess is that the TDO4HL turbos that we seem to be finding on some more of the autos are 13t's according to this site:

This info is in regards to the 3si cars but still some good info: Stealth 316 - Turbo Upgrade Guide

Check this post out:

It seems to be coming from the JDM RVR 7bolt engines that are imported over here.

Either way it's a peice of crap and you should replace it soon.

I don't really care what you call it, but it's identical to the 13g in every aspect. Therefore I call it a 13g. I've held two in my hands at the same time, trust me they're identical ;)

A 14b is a nice upgrade for ya though, or bigger :sneaky:

You probably don't have the exhaust leak, and clutch problems I do.
