I am running 14 psi on the setup on my car in my profile, you can see the mods there, to long to type LOL

This is my first time going to the track I really had no Idea it was this hard LOL, I thought it was easy but you have to do everything right, If you screw one thing up: launches or shifts you do horrible...

Please tell me what I am doing wrong, I'm here to learn, I know in the first and second video I missed 3rd badly. The second video I thought I had a really good launch. The videos are in HD and My Time slips are posted in the Description.

i ran faster in my bone stock 91 gst beater LOL what are your mods? you can't expect much from a stock\near stock 2g gsx unless you launch it super hard. it sounds like it was your VERY first track experience, im sure you were just really nervous, i know i was my first time ;)

I'm having a hard time with the sound quality, but I don't think you're slipping the clutch enough when you launch. I saw you lug pretty bad in the third video, which makes me think you're dumping the clutch at too low of an RPM. I'll tell you from personal experience, I don't dump my clutch anymore - I slip quickly. You break a LOT less things that way. A clutch is a hell of a lot cheaper than snapping drivetrain parts, esp. if it's your DD. Best thing you can do is just practice, practice, practice. Don't let people rag on your 1/4 mile time - you'll get better the more you practice :D

First experience at all, I have never been to a drag race or raced LOL.

Yeh I should have slipped it more, the second one I slipped it longer and did better.

The mod list is attached.

Your second run was definitely the best out of the three. I'd keep that RPM/Clutch combo out of #2 for the time being and work some on your reaction time. I think if you get your R/T in-line and work on your shifting speed you'll have some great times out of your setup, especially once you're comfortable with a track atmosphere. Wayyy back in the day I used to tear through Ceasar's Head in NC to work on my shifting and heel-toeing speed. The more you practice on challenging roads/Auto-X courses, the faster your shifting will get.

The sound in the video is pretty bad I just hear a big cam idling. It sounds like you need to slip the clutch at a higher RPM . Like someone said the second one is the best, the rest look like you are bogging right after your launch.

Yea you need to practice launching you need more RPM. Your 2+sec 60' is whats killing your times it should be around 1.6.

since when does RT have anything to do with your time? Yeah improving it will make him better for bracket racing, but it's not going to change his 1/4 mile times. IMO, completely forget about your RT and concentrate on your launch.

Even a 1.8 60' should net him mid to low 13's. For a beginner I would say anything below a 2.0 should be the first goal

haha, it must be waaayyy past your bedtime or your bedtime is reallly early.

The track, just like the dyno is a heartbreaker/reality check :)

Just get the 60 down to 1.9-2.0 and the car will go faster. Also, you are going to need more than 14 psi to make power.

100 mph trap is good for mid to low 13s with a good 60 foot.

once you get that 60 ft under 2.0 i guarentee your times will improve BIG time... That is what is hurting you... last year i ran 14.5 at 101 with a 2.5 60 ft.. I got a TRE stage 2 tranny and a act 2600 and starting practicing and this year i went 13.2 at 110 with a 1.9 60ft... You will win or loose with you launch...

More boost and im guess it will be harder to lauch with a lighter flywheel.

It takes a while to get used to it, especiallly hard if its your first time. When I originally bought the gsx I tried launching of idle and like a front wheel drive resulting in a bog. the night started with a 13.6 and ended with 13.04 with full weight and a 14 B. Not too bad.:hellyeah:

Like everyone else said it is all about seat time on your part.

I would also look into your tune though, with your mod list I would have expected higher trap speeds regardless of the launch. Some of the best money I spent on my car was couple of hundred to have it tuned properly.

14psi on that turbo? It's not even in it's efficiency range. A 14b would probably net faster times at that boost level just because it'd spool faster. As everyone said here you need a better 60, but you REALLY need to up the boost.

BTW: Your car looks gorgeous in your avatar.

Well Im trying to get a hold of a local Eprom. I want a Keydriver chip temporarily with a 5k 2 step and nlts... and 650cc injectors.

What kind of boost should I run with a stock engine / original oem hg and oem headbolts, Can it take 20psi safely on my fuel mods?

Thanks for the comments guys, you make me feel better than the locals. Everytime I talk to someone they are like "Hi Mister 14 sec quarter mile..." I'm hating it, I think I'm going to test and tune on Sunday.

Rev it to around 4500 5000 and slip the clutch till it starts to spool then dump from there. And just practice practice and some more practice. It just takes time man, dont get discouraged. U can practice your launches on the street. Good luck and keep postin more vids as u progress.

Personally, I wouldn't take it to 20PSI with the OEM headbolts. I'd switch them out for some ARP studs. The OEM head gasket is good for 20PSI, however.

Many people would say that it's fine to run 20psi, I'm running 18 myself, but I would be weary to do it on a 2g without logging for knock. Search the threads for MHI Scan, new software for 2g's, best of all it's free. If you can log for knock, then you're safe to try it, some try it either way.

The headgasket SHOULD be able to handle it, but if you're still on stock injectors then they probably can't.

2step with a keydiver or ecmlink will greatly improve your launch. You can get better launches with what you have now, it takes a lot of practice.
Also with 650 injectors you should be able to go past 14psi. I would get a chip and some 750cc injectors and crank the boost to 20psi-21psi. Stock headgasket will be just fine on that.
Also you never stated how your tune is and what a/f your at?

EDIT: Don't feel bad about your times though. Everyone has to start somewhere.

wow dude..u told me u had ARP head studs..i guess ill take my 420a down to hagerstown with you this weekend and well have to see if ## awd helps NEWB LOL jk... dont let them ### ###s in town get you down dude....Youll get there...Remember this thing a couple months ago I got made fun of too...

Well my A/F is 14.7 to 15.2 at idle and during a pull under boost it is anywhere from 10.5 to 11 LOL my friend helped me do it quickly... For a 16g running 20 psi. So I would say I need to work on it.

I am really looking at the keydrivers till I get the money to do dsm link.

I'm glad I started talking to you, If we can get your car finished in the looks area, its almost there :) and tune it better then you will be ready to roll. I still need to built this thing up, Ima start saving.. My car insurance is due in June for a grand total of $1600 for 6 months.:banghead:
