MIDSM meet at Milan Dragway...My first track run was humorous!
MIDSM got together at Milan Dragway on the 23rd. Marybeth really was the hero of the night at Milan with her consistent 14.7 and 14.6 second passes in her 95 TSI AWD (mostly stock). I surprised everyone by showing up with the Talon as well. I decided that I better make one pass. I figured no way I'd make it through tech, sure enough they don't even check me and the loud V8's cover the sound of my clicking front axles. I line up behind Bob (GT37R, full Buschur build) and as we wait for at least an hour before they finally decide our lane can go race.
I pull up and watch Bob take off, the launch looked pretty bad, but second looked great as the car got a little squirreley! (Sp?) it was my turn to pull up the lights. I pull up nervous as crap! I tried to ease up to the lights but I managed to fully stage instead of pre-staging anyways (boy did I feel like an idiot). I look down at the tach and pull the rpms up to launching area (about 5 grand) and look up and see the last yellow already lit! I take off with a horrible full 1 second reaction time and the launch feels decent! I go for second and the stock trans rejects me like a hottie at a night club! I slam it in and see the super loud V8 I was next to go tearing into the distance (he redlit so I still "win" ) Second feels like I'm being pulled by my grandma in a wagon, sluggish as can be. I notice ZERO boost on the gauge and realize my wastegate arm popped off. I granny shift into third and after an eternity cross the finish line.
I slow the car down (didn't have to brake much) and go around to get my ticket. 17.38 @ 75ish mph! What a ROCKET! The one positive is my first launch at a racetrack got me a 2.01 60ft which I don't think is to terrible for a first timer. Brian, Bob, and the rest of the MIDSM crew helped me get the wastegate arm back on and Bob lent me a key ring to use as a pin (the old crusty one must have given up), unfortunately I had to be back in Lansing early on the 24th so I didn't go for another pass.
I'll add that my mod list consists of a walbro 190lph fp, K&N filter, ACT 2600, and ACT chromoly flywheel. Everything else is stock and full weight. Next time we'll have boost and actually get a good pass in I hope.
