Well I finally got my AWD, turbo DSM into the 14's, I ran a 14.9 @ 91 on Saturday :rolleyes: Unfortunately, the general concensus, including my own opinion, says the car should run 12's with a decent driver. I can't seem to get rid of the knock in 3rd gear and now with all the fuel I have added, my IJDC on the 550's is over 100%(106% to be exact) My car is a testament to the importance of good tuning(apparently I'm incapable) all of the correct supporting mods are in place but the times don't match the potential of the set-up. Oh well, I'll keep running and logging and tweaking and tuning until the car runs like it should.
 
yeah with racegas id say 12's at 22psi or so ..im lookin at your mods and id ont see a bigger turbo so if your runnin the 14b u gotta turn it up up and away hehe
 
check your base timing

my car was pulling killer knock then i checked my base timing it was a little off

now the car pull really good even at stock boost on a 14b

it has a alot smoother power abnd too
 
Thanks for the replies... I sold my 450's to another DSM'r shortly after I installed the 550's. My base timing, along with all the other maitenence and upkeep are good on my car, I spent a couple thousand dollars preforming maitenence before I ever started modifying the car. My only concern upkeep-wise is this exhaust leak that I can't find, it's somewhere in the turbo-back portion of the system but the location eludes me at this point. My SAFC settings are +10% to +15% across the board but I still get knock, I will try to add more fuel up top next time I am logging and see where that gets me. Right now the knock only starts to come on in the upper part of 3rd gear(getting up to 18 counts from 5500-7000, 10-12* timing advance)I am not creeping and I got rid of the 20 psi spike, so I am holding steady at 14psi all the way through the RPM band. I am only trapping 89-91mph though and I can feel the lack of power at the top, I should be able to hit 100+ mph passes but the timing cut keeps me struggling. Oh well, more fuel, more tuning, more practice, I hope to hit my goals sometime this year. :thumb:

I'm with you man, I have a hard time believing that my car needs that much fuel. However, my fuel trims are all showing lean(especially LFT-139%) and the car responds well to more fuel. I got my knock down from 30+ counts to 15-18 by adding fuel and the car definately "feels" better. Phantom knock could be a plausible explanation but I did just run a couple of bottles of Lucas Oil Treatment through the system to try and eliminate that possibility, unfortunately, I don't have access to race gas to test that theory. I guess I could get some 100 octane and mix toluene to bring it up a few points but that seems kinda half assed.
