Ottawa,
I have a 1998 GST, but tomorrow I am going to look at a 1997 GSX. I am considering buying one and this one is 300hp and the price tag is fair.

I wanted to know all the pros and cons of having a gsx compared to gst... (mostly maintinance costs though)

<<<<<< PLEASE, NO WARS >>>>>>> If someone states there opinion who cares :shhh:

The GSX has a smaller fuel tank, vs. the GST has a larger one.???

Advantage: AWD Disadvantage: FWD

Everything the GST can do....the GSX can do better.

If the price is right, I wouldn't wait.....you'll never regret it.

Good luck on the decision.

I agree w/ the above. I own a TSI which Isn't AWD and i can't see the advanteges of FWD unless of course your racing from rolls or highway runs. The only thing i've seemed to notice is more transmission issues in the AWD cars but most can be explained by all of the force isnt being let off in the form of tires peeling out, its all being forced on the transmission (theres more to it i know). Plus AWD times are almost always better then FWD w/ the same number of mods. Maintance cost? More parts to break, transfer case and such.

Yes you can get FWD to very good times but it takes good suspension, driver, tires, and its all money you could instead spend on speed mods if you're AWD.

Only thing I would watch out for is the car's condition. I personally would rather take a stock car and mod it. Usually a car that is already modded has been driven harder and 300 horses is harder on the car then 210 driven daily.

Like said in the post above me,, You most likely will never regret getting AWD, i know i regret NOT GETTIN IT..

what everyone else has been sayin'...............

with awd, just don't be launchin' the some bia everyday, and u should be fine. just use common sense with it yo.

and ::Offtopic:: but how much smaller is the awd gas tank compared to the fwd? cause i didn't know that.

Not even that. Same-same.

People who've bought FWD when they could have had AWD may have maturing earwigs.

If DSMs weren't made in AWD, I'd never have considered one.

Pros gst
- Less drivetrain powerloss
- More gas mileage
- Better turning radius at slow speeds
- Better acceleration from a roll
- Smoke shows
- Lighter

Cons gst
- Traction :thumbdown
- Snow
- Understeer(sp?)

Pros GSX
- Traction :thumb:
- Handling in all conditions
- Things you can only do with an AWD car

Cons GSX
- More drivetrain powerloss
- Worse gas mileage
- More parts to break
- Heavier

I belive that can cover most of it. Enjoy.

Con Gst = Torque Steer

damn you must have never driven in a fwd dsm...even with a heavily modded fast hitting boost t25 I never torque steered. In fact the only time I have ever under steered is in the rain when I boosted going around a turn(dimb me...coming from a civic to my new dsm). Fwd is great for top end and ALOT less will break, they can be fun everywhere awd is(minus snow  Id rather drive a truck in snow anways) the only thing is you cant launch the same thats it...everything minus launching tsi/gst can do better :p

GSX is better from a dig, but can lose more hp to the wheels than the gst.
GST is lighter, and better from a roll.
Yet still, unless your going to be racing from a roll all the time go with the GSX.

Once you start making real power in a FWD say bye bye to racing from a stop. It will only piss you off.

Yeah very true...I kinda turned into a supra owner...always wanting to go from a roll. but from a roll it took a 20g'ed gsx with a fmic and safc to barley squeak by me at the 90mph, I mean he was only inching by(if that). from a dig the guy would have obliterated me hands down...

Ok ive seen this question asked far too many times than i can count.

GST: Good from a roll, Highway runs, less weight, more WHP, less sh!t to break, Better top end than a GSX
GSX:Great from a stop, great for traction in bad weather, better 1/4 times

Cons (GST)- not so friendly Traction, not as good 1/4 times, not great for bad weather (only if u live on Colorado or something)
Cons (GSX) From a roll, top end, heavier, more sh!t to break

IMO..its all about preferance..so im not here dogging on the AWD and some of you need to stop Dogging the FWD and make it seem like a POS..im not saying all of u are dogging..its just some people in this post that make it seem more like bashing than facts..Do i want a GSX..sure why not..i was originally looking for one..but i have my GST and im happy..and oh now that i got my GST..i enjoy the advantages it has over AWD..im perfectly happy with it..not all people are daily 1/4 runners..i like to have fun elsewhere too..and nothing better than Running a supra on a highway..thats where the AWD has Disadvantages..now only if i had some mods i could back my talk..LOL

And oh before dogging on the FWD..look at other cars that use it...i have about 11 faster cars than a GSX in mind that i can think of right now

But in conclusion, most that are telling facts are very correct, after making some serious power in a FWD..yur gonna feel like you wish it was AWD..and yes tire spin is a major issue in FWD..

Now only if i can find a nice GSX for sale with low miles, hey who said you cant own a fwd and an awd and love both :thumb:

My 2 cents

You've must have never driven a 1g fwd turbo. My laser had horrible torque steer stock. And I've heard of 2gs getting torque steer as well.

looking at it a 2g would do it more on thye stock turbo being as though there is more torque and low end. Turbo cars shouldnt have torque steer as n/a cars do, because once you shift into 2nd when it mostly occurs the turbo hasnt spooled completly. with n/a the power is right there...but I dont have to tell you that. Anyways when mine was miodded it nerver did it and I hit full boost at a whopping 2400rpm on the t25. But hey all cars are different.

I think the biggest and deciding factor is all about the money....sure the gsx has good launches...better 1/4 miles times...better driving in bad weather...but is it really worth the extra money...only to have to spend more money for fixing things? If youve got the money to fix things go with the gsx...btw...from everything ive heard...traction is not bad at all on a fwd after....LSD..stiffer suspension...and good racing tires..good luck with your choice...whats the fun in not having a challenge to launch a awd car?

AWD isn't a cure-all for wheel spin. Once you get some serious mods on an AWD you get wheelspin in first gear.

I'm glad I had FWD first and learned to launch it, because when I got my AWD modded I needed those skills again to control the wheelspin.

Now that I have both FWD and AWD I enjoy the FWD as a daily driver even more. It would be a tough choice If I had to choose one car to do everything. I guess that's why I have two.
