GST vs VW's ?

These rich kids down here have mom and dad buy them all these new cars. Couple kids come up to me at school, ask me if i want to run their bone stock 1.8T's and GTI. Now ive just got a little GST, im trying not to under estimate my car, nor theirs, but do i have a chance or is this out of my league.?

stock for stock they cant compete with a gst or gsx. They come equipped with a kkko3 turbo which also cant compete with the t25. If your stock and the are as well then youll have them easilly. Modded it depends on what everyone has done.

Heres some advice try and keep the racing on the track...and never underestimate vw's. I did once in my heavill modded all motor civic and I got tore up by a VERY stock lookin one. Good luck

Honestly depends on the driver. Stock vs stock...youll beat them pretty bad if your a good driver. But if there an excellent driver..one mistake on your part can send those rockets way past you. My first race a few days ago was against a VR6 Golf. He was only behind my right door up untill 4th when i murdered him about 6-8 cars. And come on...ive never drove stick in my life up untill last wednesday nor did i know the first thing about stick. He was an excellent driver knowing him cause hes like one of my best friends. So what im saying is that if i can do it...youll rape a GTI or a vr6 stock.

A GTI VR6 should run a low 15's quartermile. He likely quit racing when you started pulling slightly.

Pulling Slightly? Sounds like he was raping the VR6.

VW's, VR6 or 1.8T's are no match stock for stock for a GST. My friends 2000 Eclipse GS 5-speed only lost to a 5-speed VR6 Jetta by 2 cars.

2 or 3 cars..wut are u talking about? You dont even know the whole story nor did u see the race itself. I told you he is a very experienced driver and he is my friend. He asked for me to give him a 1/2 car head start because he admitted he didnt have a chance beating me. So i gave him a 1/2 car head start he puts it in 1st and he takes off, than i take off and as soon as i put it in second, i start pulling very hard on him further and further and every gear i shifted i noticed me getting so far ahead..he never quit on me so i think it was around 7-8 cars i beat him by. Also, no offense, Vw's are extremely great cars to drive but after driving a stock GST and than driving my friends Stock VW, i noticed a huge difference in the 2 cars. The VW was no comparison to how much power and speed i felt in my GST. Sure you can make them fast and there are some on the street that will rape alot of Eclipses because they have so much mods done to them, but were talking about STOCK Vs Stock. Id prefer my 4g63 over a Vr6 anyday.

if it's a 02+ 1.8T gti they can go 14.6 without any mods. all on driver. if the VR is the odler 12v VR6 it can hit 14.8 bone stock, the new 24v VR w/6spd can go 14.4's stock...these times are few and far between but i've seen it done.

I've also never had a single problem with my VW... which I cannot say for the old mitsu.

Ok than why dont you bring your VR6 and run my stock GST and ill show you how much faster my car is. If yours is stock lets run so we can really find out. Im not flaming anybody for anything but when you start talking about how my car cant beat a vr6 by more than 2-3 cars, thats just ridiculous. Like i said before, a slightly modded Vr6 (ok maybe i said alot of mods) can really haul ass. But stock vs stock, i have yet to get beat my a VW or even a close race because performance wise they are slower. And if you havnt had any problems with your VW, thats great man. And yeah i will admit this much. Because of the lightness of the 1.8T and the Golf Vr6's, those can easily beat or stay close to a GST with just a few mods like a intake and exhaust. Ive seen it done before so ill give them credit for that much. My cousin actually is a volkswagon lover and he owns a 1997 Jetta GLX VR6. Ive ran him a few times when i had my Non Turbo Modded RS. But he whooped my ass like crazy which made me trade my RS in for a GST cause i was missing all the options like powerlocks, Power windows, cruise control, STICK SHIFT, and biggest of all, A TURBO!!!!!! i couldnt see myself putting any more money in to it because it would take about a good $4000 or more to achieve all this stuff i wanted from a GST. So i just did it the easy way and found a nice Red GST. But anyways, im not flaming your ride, its just that i cant stand people who underestimate the GST's performance.

I don't disrespect the 4g63, but, it is NOT the end-all motor.


VW's may have maintenance issues, but I have yet to experience them.


I'm not stock anymore, but I won't talk about my car until I get my lazy ass to a strip to prove what I say. Being that I'm a server in a restaurant, that's not likely to happen anytime soon.

I won't bash your car, and you should not bash mine. I owned a car very similar to yours, and I am happier now. End of story.

Like I wrote in a previous post , no 1.8T does 14.6 stock, and no VR6 does 14.8s. Then my GST must go 14.1 if a 1.8T can go 14.6 stock. GST's have more power and torque than the VR6 and 1.8T.

Quit giving bullshit track times, 1.8T's are mid 15 second cars at best bone stock.

Okay I have to put in my OWN experience, back back BACK when my car was close to stock (just the air filter), I ran my friends jetta vr6 98 with also just an air filter, I ran him a few times because I was pissed as hell when he kept pulling on me from the top of 2nd, We would line up and take an even take off I would pull ahead by half a car and at the top of second I would shift and he would keep going in 2nd pass me and then shift. Those cars do have a lot more torque, well hell vr6, it wasn’t only once it was a few times and I didn’t know why, so I started asking, and everyone kept telling me stock turbo are really restricted by a lot of things and don’t show they’re true potential as we all know, and the vr6's gears are longer and have more torque, I will say this as much as I love my car, the ride, the feel, the power, my friends jetta had minimal problems, and he would push it as much as i pushed mine, but damn expensive to upgrade, every part was a fortune. Now he doesnt even stand a chance, and complains about how expensive things are.

Who ever told you that a 98 Jetta VR6 has more torque than a GST has been hitting the crack pipe a little too much. 98 VR6 Jetta's have 177lb TQ and 172HP.GST's have 214lb TQ.You lost to a slower car.You can't drive. A Spyder GST is slower than a coupe GST due to the added weight.


My boy's 154hp 2000 Eclipse GS lost to a Jetta VR6 by only 2 cars. So yes they are slow as hell.

Dude your talking about a Spyder against a vr6?? First of all spyders are not even as quick as GST coupes. I had a choice between a black 97 Spyder GST or a RED 98 GST coupe and i test drove both of them and you can easily feel the loss of power in a Spyder. No disrespect to a spyder, really fast cars but man im comparing my Stock coupe to his stock Vr6. No matter how much you want to argue there is no way a Stock Vr6 runss high 14's stock and there is no 1.8t that runs mid 14's stock, that is the biggest bunch of bull shit ive ever heard. And oh by the way, a 1997 Jetta GLX 0-60 time is mid to high 7 seconds (7.5 i think). I wouldnt talk too much about the jetta having more torque than a eclipse, i dont know where you got that bull shit info from. Thanks man... I was getting a chuckle seeing how quickly this thread went to "e-thuggin".

It's funny, but fireredGST pretty much backed up my own statements for me, concerning the VR6 in particular. Check out the 15.1 by the stock Jetta VR6, among the various 1.8T's. Sounds pretty damn close to a stock GST time to me.
